“Far From Copacabana”
Reviewed August 13, 2014

Not a bad hotel in itself. Located near Lapa, but far from the Beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema etc. The staff are friendly, only some of them are English-speaking, the rest does not even understand English, which made Communication much harder.

This Hotel is located on Riachuelo street, a ugly, crowded and stinky street of downtown, but these adjectives are a common sense for Rio de Janeiro downtown. Meanwhile is very quiet after 20:00 and will provide a good night's sleep.

The room has a good size and is simple but comfortable. The bathroom has a really good size, hair dryer and a big sink to spread your stuffs. The cleanup is OK and I could spend good resting there.

One good point to say is, this hotel has two buildings, one facing the Riachuelo street and another one on back side, if you want ensure a good night sleep asks some room on back side, the view is not good, but any view on downtown is terrible and depressive.

The breakfast is good, has tasty option, specially the cakes. The room service is good as well.

This isn’t the kind of hotel to foreigners, the most part of visitors came from other places of Brazil and following this mood you can meet some samples of typical rude Brazilian people. for example, you will be sleeping and then you will hear people speaking loud on hall and probably will disturbe you sleep.

If you are a foreigner, Brazilian will explain this behavior as “we are a happy people”, but the truth is simple: mannerless or rude, but I cannot list the mannerless of Brazilians as a negative point of this hotel. This is a social issue.

The Riachuelo street has two markets and is close to LAPA (bohemian neighborhood ) and has fast access to south side of city (Ipanema, Copacabana, Leblom, etc).
All those beautiful views of Rio de Janeiro remains on these three neighborhood listed before, the rest of Rio is ugly, crowned and forgotten by the government.

Overall, if you going to business on downtown, this is a good place, but if you are going to vacation, this is a good plan B.

Enjoy!

A 3 stars hotel located in crowds area
the room size is good for 3* hotel but the amount you pay is too much comparing with the services
not good for business trip in fact during the day it is ok but after midnight it is dangerous area full of drunks and not safe
the breakfast is the same every day with no change I was 4 days eating the same poor breakfast
WiFi is free and good
rooms are clean
the hotel area is full with supermarkets and shops but no good restaurants
small swimming pool and fitness center
I don't recommend it for families
Lunch and dinner open buffet for around $16 which is reasonable as hotel restaurant but with not much varieties
Air condition is unit with very loud voice you have to choose sleeping with noise or hot

It starts at the front desk, the staff treats you like you're asking to stay there as a favor.
The rooms are small and smell like mold, not very clean also.
The quality of what is served on the breakfast buffet is very poor, specially the juices.
It's located on a busy street and there isn't any kind of noise abatement on the windows, over the weekend it gets very noisy at night because of the people and cars on the street.

It was a business trip. Hotel has small but clean rooms. I was not happy with the size of the rooms. Rooms have noise from the road. The only advantage was that it was closer to the city center and that the supermarkets were closer to this place. Other than that I could not find any thing good. TV was working, washrooms were just ok. Suite rooms are good with twin rooms. If at all you go this hotel, get a suite room.

Room Tip: You can find better places near Copacabana beach! Try them.

I`ve been at Monte Alegre for two weeks - went to Rio to work.
The hotel is nice, the food is good. The wifi internet access is very poor on some rooms but ok on others appartments. As a cautios person I had a net wire with me and the internet connection by cable was ok.
The rooms are pretty small and to go up with your luggage you can`t count on ascensors for the whole way. To get to the elevator you have to "climb" two stairs. But, the staff help you with that without you asking.
It`s very easy to get a taxi in front of the hotel. Don`t need to ask at the reception desk.
Considering other hotels I`ve been I think this one is on price considering what it offers.

I can`t say a word about the neighbourhood once I went from the hotel to work and from work to the hotel.

Room Tip: I`ve been at 323 and the wifi worked very well. When I stayed at 301 I had to use the cable.

Stay here for 5 days by travel agency when we first visited Rio. It is located in busy street, not very tourist friendly neighborhood and maybe kind of noisy in Centro. Easy access for daily needs, like market and restaurants with great price. Serve with great breakfast. Staffs speak little English but can communicate without problem. Don't book tour or exchange money through front desk which may have a hidden service charge if you don't shop around.
