“Lovely palace”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Great place to walk around and see how the other half lived in Brazil in the late 19 cent. You can't take any bags into so you have to check you bag as your entre. Walked round at a slow pace and it took around 1 hour.

Worth a visit, was free entrance when I went so even better value.

“A must see - Imperial Museum Petropolis”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

The summer residence of Pedro II Emperor of Brazil has a huge collection of fascinating memorabilia which allows you to time-travel. Fine jewellery, magnificent paintings. Less fun having to wear slippers and not being allowed to take photographs throughout. There's a nice gift shop attached.

“Officialdom has taken over”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Why only a Very Good score? Such a clinical visit starting from a very strict line up to get the tickets at a booth some distance from the house. On the plus side this was exactly as advertised and therefore wonderful. The rooms were full of genuine artifacts from a bygone era. Yes it was like the Royal Family had just stepped out and left everything as it was. The layout and design allowed us to almost wander through the house as it was when they lived there and the crown jewels and royal garments were outstanding. To have so much history within this palace is wonderful - especially in South America. But the staff overkill on how to wear the protective slippers over our shoes, plus the bottom of the list English signage, plus the YOU MUST GO THIS WAY, made it all very hard work. Would like to think that in its day this house was a relaxing summer house - not so now for us tourists
