“Cobblestone-paved streets”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Paraty is known for the cobblestone-paved streets throughout the Historic Center District. No cars or trucks are allowed in this part of town, only foot traffic or bicycles. Horses and carts are a very common sight in Paraty and are frequently used all around the city. Much of the architecture of the city has not changed for 250 years or more, so you will have a goog idea of the colonial period.

“Lack of respect to such historical value!!!”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Lack of respect to such historical value!!!

I did not rate it MAX because, although the city lives of its historical monuments, they are not respected as much as they deserve.

A few of them have been closed for years, some are very dirty...

And as usual in Brazil, it has no bathrooms available, not enough parking, no support for tourism...

But dont make this a reason not to visit, because it is totally worth facing these obstacles to have such wonderful experience in life!!!

“Beautiful historical city, photos at every turn!”
Reviewed September 17, 2012 via mobile

We spent 2 days in paraty. The historical old town is beautiful to wander around, around every corner there were photo opportunities. Restaurants, shops, cafes and bars are everywhere, horses and carts ply the streets, the buildings are all painted different cours, the boats in the bay are very pretty. At high tide the streets near the bay flood making reflections of the buildings in the water. On Saturdays it is very busy, many brazilians visiting for the weekend, but by Sunday night it is very quaint. Artists and musicians play in the streets at night.

“Absolutely Beautiful”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

This little town, surrounded by rainforest on land, and beautiful turquoise sea, is definatley worth the visit. Walking down the cobblestone streets, stepping into little galleries and shops is a great way to spend the day. Just remember to bring a camera! It wont disappoint.
