Why did we only book a two night stay? A big mistake. We should have stayed twice as long. Not only is the little XVIIIth century town of Paraty worth in depth exploration, it is a photographers, a shoppers and a gourmet paradise, but the entire bay area, the ocean, the little islands are a dream. We hired a little boat, not expensive, and spent the afternoon exploring small creeks, swimming near iguanas and monkeys, discovering secluded beaches and sipping caipirinhas on board, and wished we could have started all over the following day. And at the same time, regretted not being able to spend the same amount of time just enjoying the lovely hotel pool, the relaxed bar atmosphere, the cosy living room of the pousada do Ouro, not to mention our room. Here, elegance of the XVIIIth century colonial Brazil meets the comforts of the XXIst century, charm meets history, heritage meets elegance
