Great place to stay near Paraty! Much has been said, and yes: it's a wonderful place, very well run by lovely Adrianna and her husband, very good (even though expensive) French restaurant. Rooms are beautifully designed (we stayed in Nr 3) and delicious breakfast is served on a balcony over a river. It's a 10 minutes ride to the city, and taxis are expensive, but a bus stops in front of the pousada every hour or so (Adrianna provides a timetable). It's probably not a good place to stay if you are in Paraty just for one night or so, due to the distance to Paraty, but it is great if you want to spend a couple of relaxed days.

Previously to booking this pousada I looked at some reviews on tripadvisor. I was looking for a charming place with good service and the reviews here were giving me this impression.
When we arrived at the pousada, I found it cute but not a paradise as some here says.
We didn´t receive any special attention from the owners.
The only thing that is different from the ordinary is the breakfast. They make a very good ricotta bread and the presentation at the table is nice.
The river that is in the background is kinda flat, full of stones and not really inviting. They could clean up a bit at the margins to make it more appealing.
They use something very strong to clean the rooms. I couldn´t stand the smell and we could only stay in the room from the afternoon onwards after the smell was gone.
Also, the bed linen smells like dust. The toilet flush is very weak which is not very ´´charming´´. Nothing interesting on the minibar, only water and beer. No room service whatsoever. There is nothing special or charming in this place. The towels are ordinary, nothing fancy at the bathroom. Rather normal country side, simple place where you sleep with dogs barking and wake up with the chickens. As there is nothing to do at the pousada, the distance from Paraty city centre can be a little annoying.

Prezada Renata,
Att,
Adriana & Christophe Legond

In summary, we would definitely return to this lovely pousada! Adrianna and her husband make you welcome right from the start, and as many guests attest, the 12+ dish breakfast on the river is very memorable! Our only complaint: we had to leave too soon!

PROS
1. Hospitality - Adrianna is a hostess with the mostess! Full of information and always willing to help.
2. Rooms - large, comfortable and clean. Good air con. Decent shower. Comfy mattress.
3. House - well-maintained, clean and beautiful.
4. River - we took a swim right upon arrival - no tide and full of nice sandy patches.
5. Breakfast - huge and varied - something homemade and delicious for all tastes!
6. Value - great value, especially for Brazil at Christmas. I think we paid around GBP 60/night.

CONS
1. Location - a 10 min bus/taxi ride to town; however there is a very regular door-to-door bus service that costs about $1, and taxis weren't too bad either. On the flip side, the pousada's location means you have a gorgeous river as your backyard and are close to the waterfalls and other more natural attractions.

This paraty has just a handful of rooms which are air conditioned, clean and comfortable. What makes this place special is (a) the view from the breakfast terrace overlooking the river and mini-rapids and (b) the food. The owner-chef Christophe cooks is French, and despite being self-taught his food is as authentic and as good, if not better, than anything I've ever had in Paris, but uses local ingredients. Even if you don't end up staying here I highly recommend trying the restaurant for dinner. Breakfast just keeps on coming, a decadence of home made pastries, fruits, eggs. The owners are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: It's not essential but definitely much more convenient to have your own car to get into town and...

I've been meaning to write this review for the past two months, so here goes.
Summed up in a single word, our stay in this Pousada was UNFORGETTABLE!! The Pousada is tranquil, beautiful and very tastefully done up. Our room was very spacious and comfy. Breakfast was a feast every single day of our stay. Christoph, the co-owner who also runs Bistrot Voila within the Pousada (see my review), pampered us with amazing treats every morning. As an added bonus, breakfast is served on a terrace overlooking a river - it really can't get better than that! Oh, it did, as it came with the company of the world's most sociable and laziest cat - Mimo!

Not having been to Paraty before, it was pure luck that we'd booked a place outside the town centre. Don't get me wrong, the historic centre in Paraty is charming and all that, but there is very little local life, except for the restaurants and shops serving the tourists. Caminho do Ouro, on the other hand, is located bang in the middle of a village ca. 6 km outside the town centre. This was perfect for exploring the beautiful, lush hills and woods of Paraty and to get a glimpse of local life. We hired bicycles and did what lots of the locals did - we cycled nearly everywhere and had a great time doing it!

Finally, a few words on the hosts, Adrianna and Christoph. Their hospitability is first rate and both have a really lovely, warm, friendly manner about them. They made sure our stay at the Pousada was very comfortable, so our sincere thanks for a wonderful time.

If you're heading out to Paraty, make sure this is your address #1!

My wife and I stayed at this quaint little gem of a pousada in February 2011. We arrived by car very late on Friday evening (after midnight) and our host, Adriana, was awaiting our arrival and couldn't have been kinder, showing us our room and allowing us to sleep rather than sign in, which we did the following day.

When we woke the following morning, we were introduced to a beautiful breakfast outside on a veranda next to a river. What a great start to the day! We then headed in to the center of Paraty - the pousada itself is not really in Paraty, so a car is somewhat necessary. Paraty is a wonderful little town, full of colour, vibrance and history. Not far from Paraty is the most incredible beach. It's hard to find as it's off the main road (if going towards Sao Paulo) but look out for the sign that reads Trindade, which is the beach you're looking for. You'll know it when you head half way up a mountain, back down and into a makeshift car park!!

After a wonderful day at the beach, we headed into Paraty for lunch (lots of lovely little restaurants where you can enjoy a meal out in the sun) and soaked up some of the involving history.

In the evening, we returned to the pousada and enjoyed a fabulous meal, cooked by Adriana's husband, Christophe, who happens to be a French cook, and therefore is a dab hand in the kitchen. As a trained chef, I can safely say that Christophe is a great cook and both Adriana and Christophe serve as great hosts as the evening progresses.

My wife and I were both sad to say goodbye to an amazing weekend at this jewel of a place, but we will return, and can only look forward to enjoying the company of two wonderful hosts, a dreamy, cosy pousada, and a beautiful little town in Paraty. We both highly, H-I-G-H-L-Y recommend Pousada Caminho do Ouro to one and all, especially as a romantic week/weekend away. Thank you Adriana and Christophe!!
