This place is old but its not only that because I have been to many hostels in old buildings but its altso dirty. The cleaning you cant even call it cleaning, they just wipe the floor quick. Its mouldy and you can smell it in the rooms and the hall, its a horrible smell! The common toalets and bathrooms in the room are disqusting and so dirty!

The service is bad, exspecialy by the boys they really dont wanna make an effor to smile or try to give any extra service. The girls are better but still the staff is really slow and it look like they dont wanna be there at all.

The only good thing about this place is that you meet a lot of people because nobody wanna be in their dirty smelly rooms and people gather together to talk about the bedbugs;)

Room Tip: Find a cleaner place and come by in the evening and hang out instead

Upon arrival you already get the unwelcome feeling. The staff are very slow at doing everything, like check in, booking transfers and other che lagarto hostels, i dont know why but everything is such a hasel to them. They make you move rooms alot and then move you to a room that is more expensive and tell you there is no other beds available, even though upon asking other guests there are many beds in thier cheaper dorms. barman is very choosy about who he serves. will tell some people the bar is closed but then serve others! Some rooms are nice, but there was many reports of bedbugs and blood suckers. the hosel also turns into a bar at night which is very noisey if you need a good night sleep! in the end we were way over charged and we stayed in a pousada after the 2nd night for much better value!Breakfast was the only plus!!

we stayed in aquario, its owned and neighbours che largarto, but has a different vibe. che had quite unfriendly staff, where aquario had a very family run feel. its got mostly backpackers, it had a decent breakfast. just rooms werent particularly clean, but for the atmostphere and socially it was great.

Ilha Grande is a bautiful place and well worth the trip but do not stay in this dump. I have stayed in other Che Lagartos and had a great time and assumed that this hostel would be up to the same standard, I was very mistaken. The staff were drunk most of the time and had very little interest in helping, they couldnt tell me what time the boat went to the mainland! The room 102 should be avoided at all coats. My bed was besdie the toilry door which slanted towards the bed so there was a constant pool of water beside my bed added to the smell of urine. The mould was a serious issue here also, all your clothes will get damp and obviously the health risks are huge. Also you will share your bed with lots of bed bugs, so get ready to scratch! There are lots of lovely little guesthouses on the island I suggest stay in one of them.

I had a great room, the one with the view. Other rooms in the hostel were not so great. The view, the communal space were all great. Great location, but then again anywhere on ilha grande would be. The staff were a bit uninterested, some were friendly enough but the majority of them had no hints and tips, no passion for the island and what there is to do there. This did not stop me from having a great time however, there were many people staying there, I met someone later in my travels who stayed somewhere with no one else there and they did not enjoy ilha because of that.
