“Romantic for a dinner on the beach with candlelights”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

We had a mango ceviche (small portion) and an excellent fish moqueca. Caipirinha and caipivodkas are Ok. The location of this restaurant is convenient, atmosphere is very romantic with tables on the beach, candlelights... but don't forget your mosquito repellent !

“Appallingly rude service... from the owner himself!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

I have been there last January with my partner. We simply asked for something as basic as changing a side dish from rice to fries, and the gentle young foreigner waiter asks this middle aged man... who (aggressively) turns to us and emit an orc-ish ¨NO¨ without any worry whatsoever in at least being gentle with costumers, simply rude...

Well, it turns out that this gentleman is the owner himself!! Hence the power to decide on side dishes but, paradoxically, the complete lack of care for a costumer or, even less, just the basic kindness in dealing with another human, costumer or not...

I am not sure if this is because, unlike my partner, I am an obviously looking Brazilian man. Maybe auto-discrimination: Who knows, maybe the foreign costumers receive a better treatment, but I am just speculating. From my frequent travels all over the world (from rich to poor countries), it is rare to find poor service of such magnitude.

This, for an ¨ok¨ mildly cold dish of normal standard food, sums up to a quite poor overall experience. Avoid (unless everywhere else is full & no choice).

“Went there twice, but not for the obvious reasons...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

Going to the same restaurant twice normally means that it is really good. However, after a few disappointing evenings in other places, we went back to this place because we had a satisfactory first time experience, and it was more or less a safe bet.

The first time we started off with fried shrimp in tapioca (recommended) and for main course we had a grilled fish served in banana leaves and fried banana, which was also very good. However things were going a bit slowly (we had to wait for 30-45 minutes before being served). It seemed that they had too little staff at times to server all the customers. We also had to ask two or three times for the drinks to arrive. The staff was friendly, despite seeming to have too much to do.

The second time we yet again had the fried shrimp in tapioca pearls, and some white fish along with rice etc. We asked explicitly if we could have fried cassava (which was not on the menu) instead of the fried potatoes, and this was not a problem. This was however forgotten when we were served, but they told us that they would serve it as soon as possible. This resulted in "wet cassava dipped in oil". We complained, and it was sent back to the kitchen. A few minutes later we got properly fried cassava and an excuse. The meal was however a bit disappointing as it was promoted to have a lot of good taste.

This restaurant, as many of the beach restaurants, had an artist that was performing. For non-brazilians, you should know that you will have to pay approximately 5 R$ per person, which is a bit annoying when it is being played too loud by an artist that sings e.g. Nirvana by heart (and has not spent enough time memorize it). I would rather pay to not have him sing as I do not think it fits well with the "atmosphere".

Also be aware that the prices are excluding service (as everywhere in brazil) which is 10% of the overall costs (which in theory is optional, but you should pay unless you have been treated really bad).

“Best restaurant on Ilha Grande”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Conveniently located on the beach, it is possible to have a table outside in the sand.
Service is helpful, competent and speaking decent English.
Food was really wonderful, both fish and meat (try the T-bone).
Prices are correct.

“Very unfriendly owner”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

While we were looking around for a nice place to eat, and it seemed that was fairly standard for all restaurants to offer two free caipirinhas if your dish was over R$80. When we were looking at their menu, we asked the owner whether he also had the same deal of the free caipirinhas. The owner completely snapped at us, saying in very aggressive and sarcastic way "Well, lady! If you two spend R$2.000 reais - you can have even four caipirinhas for free. Are you eating here or not?" . Completely unnecessary!
It seems that we were not the first people being mistreated by him, so I wouldn't go back, as there other places similar prices and much better service around.
