Another trip to Vila Pedra Mar!
This hidden jewel has become a sanctuary.
I almost wish that not too many people will get to know
about it - my own jealous secret! A Secret paradise.
As I am writing this I am planning my next visit.

After 5 weeks backpacking around Peru, Argentina and Brazil, we wanted to spend the last few days of our honeymoon in luxury. We chose Vila Pedra Mar after considerable research and luxury was delivered in abundance!

Although a cliche, this really is a little piece of paradise. It's located on a small beach on the quiet western side of Ilha Grande, away from the various bars and pousadas in the more populated Abrao. Perched on rocks overlooking a picturesque fishing village and nestled partly in the jungle, Vila Pedra Mar is truly unique.

From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the whole experience. The owners (Jo and Sarie) give you a very warm reception and show you to your spacious, beautifully furnished room. The view over the bay is quite incredible and the rooms ooze comfort. The towels are luxurious, the sheets an indulgent 1200 thread count, the shower with a window overlooking the bay is memorable.

The owners are not only the perfect hosts but amazingly interesting people. The story of how they built Vila Pedra Mar is inspiring. As hosts, they reach the perfect balance between being attentive to your every need but not being intrusive. The food cooked by Sarie is delicious and varied.

As you can tell, we had the most amazing time at Vila Pedra Mar and highly recommend it to anyone. We're not normally compelled to write reviews but this is one exception. To sipping a caipirinha on the roof terrace as the sun sets over the sea, to swimming with turtles, to having monkeys visit for breakfast and to lounging on the private jetty, every moment of your stay will be memorable.

After traveling to Rio with my husband and two young teens, I was hoping to find a place nearby to relax and enjoy unspoiled natural beauty. We headed for Ilha Grande and were so lucky to find Vila Pedra Mar- this place is a winner! Sarie & Jo, our hosts at Vila Pedra Mar, are remarkable people. They built a gorgeous inn, perched on a hill overlooking a quiet cove on Ilha Grande. Nothing was spared in building this bit of paradise. Each room is elegantly decorated with romantic mesh-canopied beds, artistic touches throughout and magnificent views of the sea. We stayed in the honeymoon suite-it is a stand-out...just gorgeous! Sarie helped us arrange travel to the island and Jo met us with a boat to ferry us to their home. Lunch was awaiting our arrival- that was just the beginning of the superb dining we enjoyed there. Sarie cooks everything from scratch and to perfection. While there, we swam right off their dock, hiked trails to nearby villages and secluded beaches and went boating w/our hosts to one of their favorite snorkeling spots. Sarie and Jo wined and dined us, making certain that our visit there was perfect-they made us feel like we were old and dear friends. We are so glad to have met these wonderful, warm and caring people and hope to be able to return again and again.

Our stay in Vila Pedra Mar was short but unforgetable. We decided to go to Ilha Grande in our honeymoon.
We were looking for a special place, we wanted the posada to be quiet and beautiful.
Sarie and Jo are wonderful hosts. The posada is managed by them, the owners. We found that this more than a posada; it is their beautiful house which they decided to share with visitors. The good taste of Sarie is all around the place, furniture, artwork, ornaments and more... The bed room is big and lovely decorated, and I love the bathroom, also big and spacius! The nice sheets and towels are also good details to remark.
You must see the honey moon suite! It's also big and confortable, and has a balcony with a little swimming pool, just great!
The view is gorgeous from all the rooms and common spaces.
A special chapter is for the food... at dinner you can enjoy Sarie's special and secrets recipes, more than tasty... and they have a good selection of wines to enjoy.
The posada is great but the most valuable is Sarie and Jo's care, attentiveness... they really care foryou, and they help you in everything you need.
If you visit Ilha Grande don't doubt and visit them! You are going to have a beautiful stay!

There is no end to the good things that I could tell you about our visit to Vila Pedra Mar. After spending about a week in Rio, my new husband and I spent 4 nights on the island in paradise! We arrived late afternoon and the sun was near setting; I was brought to tears when I saw the honeymoon suite that was waiting for us! That evening we enjoyed a fabulous candle light dinner of fresh fish and trimmings that was cooked on the rooftop open fire pit; fabulous! This was just the beginning of our experience that only got better. Living in the jungle does provide for some interesting visitors, we had a lovely red frog visit us nearly everyday, and the turtles passed right by the jetty where we swam. Sarie and Jo were the most gracious and caring hosts, we felt at home from the moment we arrived! We could be on our own in our suite, on the jetty, off on a hike or we could enjoy the company and conversation with the most interesting couple we have ever met! The living areas are gorgeous, the food is fantastic, and Sarie's homemade ice cream is to die for! I would feel lucky and blessed to be able to return there one day for another visit! It was truly a dream. Thank you again for making our honeymoon so memorable!

Ilha Grande is one of the most beautiful and unique places I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. This little piece of paradise offers clear warm water, perfect for snorkelling or diving, picturesque private beaches strewn with giant boulders and gorgeous emerald slopes of Atlantic rainforest, beckoning to be explored.
Vila Pedra Mar is a lovely B&B built right on/over the rocks lining the shore, with the water lapping underneath. The wide-angle views from all three levels of the villa are simply breathtaking, encompassing the vast blue-green bay and sweeping all the way to the purple mountain ranges on the mainland in the far distance. The vistas are constantly changing, depending on the time of day or the quality of the light.
All the rooms share these great views, but the main/honeymoon suite is truly exceptional, with only the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors (on two sides) and sheer voile drapes separating you from the magnificent scenery. This suite is very romantic - spacious, airy and decorated with exquisite taste. The open-air but totally private shower is a nice touch. The accomodations are great - the bedrooms all have A/C (rarely needed because of the soft breezes), super-comfortable beds with top-quality linens, and thick, luxurious towels and robes. Every suite has its own name and unique ambiance.
One of the best things about staying at Vila Pedra Mar is getting to know the owners, Jo and Sarie; lovely, warm people who do everything in their power to make their guests feel special and pampered. They helped me plan each day with as much (or as little) activity and adventure as I desired. I hiked in the the rain forest (the bird life was astonishing), took several sightseeing trips by boat, exploring the island coastline, and once even went snorkelling with turtles! Often I simply relaxed, surrounded by the tranquil beauty. My favourite "activity " was enjoying the glorious sunsets every evening from the rooftop terrace, a glass of wine in hand.
Meals were top-notch and creative - I loved the cornucopia of fruit and the fresh fish. The cook-outs by the outdoor grill were memorable too. A must-do: enjoying a cocktail in the private little rock pool!
In conclusion, the only negative thing I can say about spending time at Vila Pedra Mar is that a piece of your heart will stay behind when you have to leave! Be sure to take a camera along, so you can capture a little bit of the magic and beauty of this extraordinary place.

We spend 10 days at Vila Pedra Mar which we can only describe as the most unique experience. The beauty of the Island, the magificent house/posada, five star quality of linen, bedrooms, bathrooms and then the opportunity to view the ocean and listen to the bird life in this rain forest whilst you are having a shower! The breakfast setting and lounge areas are simply exquisite. Supper, a fresh fish from the sea on hot coals watching the sun set. The walks through the rain forest and on the beach is great but the boat trips around the Island wathing dolphins playing while sipping a glass of wine tops it all. I can write a very long review but nothing I put on paper can do justice to this Island experience. This is a must for any traveller!!
