“Nice view, regular food, bad service”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

This is a small hotel with an extraordinary view of Buzio's bay. Our room was small and run-down, and had to be serviced 3 times during our stay. Food was ok; nothing special. Most of the staff was not attentive, with the exemption of that one serving as concierge. Lobby/pool structure was substandard. This hotel does not have a good cost-effectiveness.

I booked our stay at Casas Brancas because of the uniformly glowing reviews on Trip Advisor. I certainly don't know why. My kids are 16, 19 and 22. We have traveled extensively and appreciate good service and fine accommodations. Casas Brancas provided neither.
Yes, the views from the hotel are beautiful and the common areas are comfortable and well-designed with the views in mind. Yes, Casas Brancas is well located in terms of walking to town and some beautiful beaches.
Unfortunately, not only were our rooms visually unappealing, but the floors had cracks in the concrete (yes, they seemed to be white-washed concrete, as was the bathroom floor and walls) and it made the room look dingy. The sheets were standard Holiday Inn as was the bedspread. The towels could have come from a Motel 6. The toiletries were a pleasant addition, except they were never replenished and I had to ask numerous times for replacements, and they came only one at a time. The shower only had a cloth for protection, so water sprayed all over the floor. There's a drain in the floor for this purpose. I almost felt that I needed to wear flip-flops in the shower.
I could have lived with all that if the service made up for the lack of comfort. It however, was even more disappointing. We are a family of 4 and stayed for one week. A table of four was never set for us, and the breakfast waitstaff treated us as if we had newly arrived, each day. We ordered the same thing, as the menu never varied, and every day, to the same server, we needed to explain what we wanted. No one understood English, which is ridiculous since the one plastic "menu" was written in English, so even pointing to what we wanted wasn't understood. Eating breakfast shouldn't have to be such a chore.
The dinner staff seemed to be much more accommodating, English-speaking and gracious. The dining room and open air spaces were comfortable and beautiful and when there was good service, it was a delight to lounge, relax and enjoy the sun and pool.
The reception staff were uniformly pleasant and spoke English, although they made no effort to be helpful in terms of activities in the area. My travel agent was more helpful in that regard.
The concierge's time seemed to be taken up by his attention to couples.
The views are beautiful, the hotel well-situated, the common areas lovely and comfortable, but the service was abysmal, the internet, which they said was available all over was spotty at best and absent at worst, and the rooms and bathrooms sub par.

Room Tip: Try to get the suites as those seem to be the only rooms with beautifully appointed furniture, texti...

A very nice stay over Christmas in Casas Brancas!

Highlights: gorgeous views, walking distance to town, local beach and restaurants, delicious and good value restaurant, friendly staff and lovely breakfast.

''Lowlights'': while this was really a very nice hotel, I thought that for the price we paid some things could have been better. Little things but for example, the bedroom didnt really match the photos on the website (I guess they showed more luxurious rooms or sea-view rooms), cleaning ladies always forgot to provide us with more shampoo/soap when it ran out, and the pool is really only for dipping in to cool off.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night at the end of five months travelling. I cannot fault this hotel! Staff were friendly and attentive from the start, with the concierge coming to greet us personally and offering us breakfast, even though we hadn't been booked in for that morning. We arrived early to make use of the beautiful facilities and were made to feel very welcome. The sun loungers are very comfortable and all look out over the sea, and there's a small pool to cool off in.

When we were given our room we were delighted. We were led to a beautiful room (number 11 I think) with a huge balcony complete with incredible view over the bay, and were brought complimentary champagne to drink while taking in the views.

The breakfast was brilliant- a great variety of choice and great service once `again.

This is a brilliant hotel in a beautiful setting and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting Buzios.

We cannot recommend the Casas Brancas Boutique Hotel & Spa highly enough - we were in Brazil for our Honeymoon and our first stop was the Casas Brancas. From the moment we arrived the staff looked after us so well. We were delighted to receive a room upgrade to a room with an ocean view and loved the complementary glass of champagne on the terrace looking out over fabulous views. The hotel is beautiful and in such a great location, at the heart of beautiful Buzios. The hotel restaurant is a very high standard, the breakfast buffet offers so much choice (the best we had in Brazil), the seafood at the restaurant was also first class. The staff are a credit to this hotel, especially Sebastian the concierge - who offered great assistance planning our few days in Buzios. This hotel is a must - a beautiful start to what was a fantastic trip to Brazil. Thank you so much! Sara & Colm

Room Tip: Request a room with an ocean view - amazing!

We had an outstanding holiday at Casas Brancas with beautiful views and facilities, a great location within walking distance to the shops, restaurants and beaches and friendly staff who couldn't do enough to help. Our room was spacious, clean and had a view of the ocean, surrounding islands and the pretty town.

The breakfast included was delicious and we made use of the yoga classes that were available to guests. We loved every minute of our 6 days in Buzios.

An exquisite hotel and a wonderful destination for our honeymoon. Thank you!!

Our final destination in Brazil was just what we needed. As soon as we stepped into Casas Brancas we were upgraded and offered a glass of champagne whilst we relaxed on the terrace waiting for our room to be prepared. This feeling remained throughout our stay in Casas Brancas and thank you to all the staff who were so attentive. We would not hesitate staying here again and it is well worth paying up for if yo go to Buzios. Casas Brancas is in the best location (walk to some lovely beaches and the town centre) and the views are spectacular.

Breakfast was the best! Whoever their chef was, his omelettes are excellent. Also extra special thanks to Sebastien who spent a long time telling us about Buzios' best spots and restaurants. He literally bends over backwards to ensure every guest at Casas Brancas is happy and comfortable, don't know how he does it!!
