“Comfy and Luxurious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2009

My husband and I just got back from Brasil for our honeymoon. We went to Rio and Buzios and we highly recommend staying at Glenzhaus! The decor is top notch (straight our of Elle Decor magazine) and extremely well designed (we noticed that the air conditioning vents have a wood casing on the exterior to hide them. Details details!) Our room was spacious, CLEAN, and very relaxing. We were served breakfast pool side every day; fresh fruit and a delicious mix of Brasillian treats. We were treated like royalty. It rained one of the days on our trip and when we pulled our vehicle up the the pousada, a staff member was waiting for us with 2 umbrellas to take us to our room. I'd give the service an A+. Buzios itself was pretty amazing but our experience with Glenzhaus really put class and luxe to our honeymoon. I would suggest staying here to anyone who wants peace and quiet with luxury on their trip. We drove all around the peninsula and I wouldn't stay any place but Glenzhaus if I were to go back. Thank you Giselle, Alexandre and Rubem

My partner and I stayed there for a few days during the last week of June. We loved the room, the staff, and the breakfast. The Pousada is nicely decorated and has a nice posh but friendly feel to it. The only real difference between it and the ones near the downtown is that those pousadas have views of the Buzios bay and the quaint fishing boats--but a friend of mine stayed in one of those and his room was uncomfortable and had no view. If you are a jet setting, five-star, bathing in champagne traveler, with a personal valet---and expect all that for $10 a day---then you'll want to stay somewhere else. But if you like nice accommodations at a good value and a wonderful staff --- and a very generous breakfast (we didn't have lunch during our stay b/c we were full after breakfast) --- then this is probably a good option.

After reading reviews, was not sure if this was going to be the best choice but I was extremely surprised! Check in was great! Giselle was very informative and so nice, room was very large with kitchen, living area and the balcony was huge! Giselle left for Rio and Alex was there for the remaining of our stay - very nice. The staff are really friendly and make you feel at home. For breakfast, they make it fresh as you order it - a nice selection of fruit, cold cuts, eggs & bacon, bread, pastries, champagne, fresh squeezed juice and more! The pool area is lovely - you feel like you are at your own villa. I believe the hotel has 16 rooms - so just big enough to offer hotel services but small enough to feel like you are at your own private villa. We did not see any other guests except at breakfast so it was like having the place to yourself. Being a small hotel, they do not have a restuarant but they offer a nice selection of snacks (pizza, etc.) and drinks. So, if you are hungry, there is a small, yet nice selection of items to choose from. VERY CLOSE to town - you can walk or take a taxi. We really like the location. Buzios is absolutely stunning! With the exchange rate - everything is very resonable - 1 hour massage at the hotel - $60 usd, dinner out in town with drinks, steaks and apps for 4 people $100 USD - that's a 1/3 of what you would pay in the states or elsewhere. Shopping is also great - so inexpensive with the exchange rate.

Very nice Pousada with great pool....but there are better in Buzios.
The entrance area is sublime and service is excellent, but the place falls down on lack of real charm.

This hotel (or Pousada) was a story of 2 extremes:

What we loved:

1)The staff is very helpful. They almost give you a bed and breakfast feeling.

2) The bed was amazing. Very comfortable.

3) As others have written, this was the best free breakfast by far. Again, the feeling of a bed and breakfast, not quite personalized but very high quality and a tranquil setting.

4) Room size was very spacious.

What we would like to change:

1) The staff is limited. Due to the small number of rooms there is often only 1 person working the lobby to answer phones, check you in, get your bags, get you a drink at the bar, help as a concierge, etc. Meaning you need to be patient.

2) The maids and breakfast crew speak very limited English.

3) Some noted a free ride into town. Not for our stay. They'll gladly call you a cab which takes 5 minutes and is inexpensive however.

4) Internet very slow in the lobby only. No internet in the room and the free computer in the lobby is very antiquated and slow. They have wifi in the lobby but it was very inconsistent.

5) Because I had to use the internet in the lobby I got eaten alive by bugs. Prepare and use bug repellent.

6) The bathroom was VERY small and the toilet is tiny with very little room to maneuver.

I have stayed at Porto Bay Glenzhaus in Buzios for 4 nights and we definatelly recomment it to everybody.

Great suites, excellent decor and the staff is just great.

Not exactly by the beach, but you can get it at 5 minutes walk, so we thought that the distance would work out in our benefit - it would be more quiet.

The breakfast by the pool is something to remember and we just wish to come back soon.

We stayed at Porto Bay Glenzhaus for 5 days and we definitely recommend it to travelers to Búzios.
Although Búzios tends to be very busy at this time of the year, Glenzhaus as revealed to be a pearl of quietness and good taste. Our suite was ENORMOUS and the decor luxurious but only to the point that you expect from a Pousada.
Friendly people, starting with Gisele, the manager, made us feel at home and wanting to come back.
Congratulations to the team!!!
