We stayed between the Olympics and Paralympics and had a very relaxing break. It's winter in Brazil so it's not as hot as during the summer and the hotel was very quiet. In fact for some of our time we were the only guests.
None of the staff really speak English although one of the has a smattering. Neither of us speak Portuguese but using sign language, Google translate, and a bit of head scratching we managed to make ourselves understood!
The beach is through a gate and the hotel has sea kayaks for guests to use so we did a bit of paddling which was fun. There are turtles and shoals of fish in the bay. We were fascinated by the birds in the garden as we ate our continental breakfast.
The village of Angra is a fair trek away and not really worth the walk so if you think you'll need to get away you'll need to get a taxi. We had a hire car but didn't go out much as we really just wanted to relax.More
