Village Porto de Galinhas
Ranked #10 of 26 Hotels in Porto de Galinhas
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 2, 2012

I am not an expert with beach resorts, but I was pretty happy with my stay.
This hotel looks like 10 years old, huge beach front property at the Cupe beach in Porto de Galinhas.
The pools are amazing, probably the nicest ones I ever been to.
The gardens are well cared for, with many types of palm and coconut trees, there are are hammokcs on trees in the gardens, and in the balconies.
The pools and trees are lighted at night to complement the scenario.
Common areas of the hotel are nice, clean and modern. Staff is nice and efective.
The beach right in front of the hotel is not suitable for swiming, it has strong waves and undercurrents, but I actually like it.
I enjoy the sound of the waves and the wind, I don't like beaches where the water is too still, like Muro Alto which is also located in Porto de Galinhas, and where many other resorts are.
The beach clean, safe and good for walking for miles and miles on both directions.

I just don't give the hotel an "Excellent" hotel because of the rooms. I don't really think they are compatible with a 4 star hotel rating, as the rest of the hotel is.
Rooms are quite small and simple, and showing signs of age.
Mine had a nice LED TB with plenty of cable channels, a decent split AC unit and queen size spring box bed.
The bathroom really needs an upgrade, the mirror was oxidized, the shower rusty, there shower door would not close and the whole bathroom would get wet. Also there is not exaust or window in the bathroom, and no hangers for the towels or swim suits, which makes it kinda hard to manage in a beach hotel. I had to hang my stuff in the balcony.

I had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and althoug the dinner was pretty expensive for the local standards (US$25/person), the food was really good and server in a clean, modern and air conditioned restaurant.
There are activities for kids during the day, and tematic dinners and shows at night, including local folk music (forró) and stand-up comedy presentations (all held in Portuguese).

I suggest you hire a "buggy" tour at the hotel, where they will take you on a 4x4 sand vehicle to know all of the beaches in Porto de Galinhas, once is nicer than the other. Try to scuba dive or snorkel at the natural pools located by Porto's main village.
Overall it was a very nice, enjoyable stay with my wife and daughter and I would definitely come back, but looking forward for a renovation in the rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pools, they have better view than the ones at the back.

Having spent 10 days at the Village over Christmas and New year we would recommend this to anyone that wants a relaxing holiday by the beach. The rooms are comfortable with an excellent shower. The food was always on a buffet style but the range of food options were excellent. The staff, particularly the waiting staff were cheerful and friendly even though they don't speak English. (This added to our fun.) The beach was excellent with miles of flat sand to enjoy walking or jogging. The Atlantic Ocean was 23 degrees and the waves were a lot of fun.
The entertainment was excellent and even after New Year's Eve, with over 1000 people enjoying good food, drink and dancing until 2am the following morning the hotel was clean and fully operational. Overall a fantastic holidy

The hotel is well located, just few steps from the bedroom to the beach and also relatively close to the town, (around 4km). During the night it's quiet and peaceful being able to hear the waves. Speaking of the sea, the water is clear, soft sand but with some waves, for calmer sea there is at 800m a part which is better, at Cupe.
The bedroom was very comfortable with mini fridge, plasma tv, air conditioning, safe, hammock and the view from room 363 was a nice extra.

The service was also good, the staff was kind and helpful even if the food took a little bit too long to get from the kitchen, one advice is to ask for the food before getting hungry. In the menu you can have typical dishes among others. The stew of fish and shrimps with coconut milk was delicious. However, the breakfast it's great with several kind of fruits and also typical fresh tapyoca among other options.

The kids have their own pool and physical activities with the hotel staff, day and also at night. At night they are usually calm and don't bothers the adults :p

In summary it was a great week and I would recommend for some great time.

PS: get a high fps sunblock because there wasn't almost no cloud in the sky all the week we stayed there.

We had a family wedding in Recife, Brazil and came down to Porto de Galinhas for a few days after the wedding. After reading the various reviews I was worried about the hotel. We had a snafu with our Orbiz reservation but we were able to share a room with a family member and enjoyed our two night stay at the resort. The pools are beautiful and the room was roomy with a balcony equipped with a hammock. The beach is nice with beach chairs and umbrella's and bar service. There were warnings about the undertow and rough water. It is a two mile walk into town along the beach. The lobby area is spacious with lots of seating. The breakfast buffet was good with lots of choices. There are taxis to take you into town for 15 Reals per trip. It was not hard to find a taxi back to the hotel after dinner. The hotel organized a taxi to take us to the airport which was a big help. The hotel does not get many visitors from the United States so no one speaks English. The manager spoke English and when we were checking out on a Monday, the hotel called a young man to in and translate. We ate at Beijupura and Marangatu. Both were OK, we could get a bottle of wine at Marangatu.

This hotel is located at Cupe Beach which is not good at all for swimming.

I would suggest that you look for something in Muro Alto. That beach is great! Porto de Galinhas main beach is not so good, because it is very crowded.

Pros:
1 - Good breakfast.
2 - Location is OK (5 minutes by car to the village or 1-hour walk on the beach).
3 - Nice pools.
4 - There activities on the hotel.
5 - Good options for dinner.
6 - Room size is OK.

Cons:
1 - Bedrooms could be cleaner.
2 - Beds are awful! Horrible sleep quality.
3 - You can't touch the bedroom walls! They are spiky! One touch you get hurt!
4 - They charge you for Wi-Fi. There is no Wi-Fi signal in the rooms.
5 - Sheets and Towels are terrible (VERY low quality).
6 - Beach in front of the hotel is VERY dangerous. Nobody can enter.
7 - Room walls are too thin!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the building closer to the beach! They are the best (LCD TV, better beds...)

- good number of swimming pools;
- Regular rooms are just OK, pretty old and the bathroom could be cleaner;
- service can vary a lot, from very good to very poor;
- Lunch and dinner prices in the hotel restaurant are overpriced. But, as you need to pay R$15 to get to the city center (R$30 for the round trip), you end up spending more than you hoped for a good meal;
- Breakfast lacks variety. Fruits are very good, the rest not so much;
- The hotel beach is dangerous, so there is not much to explore besides the pool area;
- In the evening, they have a buffet for dinner (R$37). You could each much better downtown if you did not have to pay for the taxi ride. Also, they run out of some options at about 8pm and that's it - no more of that type of food. We complained about it to management on the 1st time but it simply happened again the next day (and the hotel was not near full of people).

Bottom line is: for the price we paid, we expected more. It is very far from the city center, food quality and variety were disappointing.
