I wanted this to be a super end to a great trip. Not so unfortunately. Some really good aspects to our stay here and some not so good. Not worth the nightly price we paid; not even close. I would give a 3.7 but have to round up. In the US it would be no better than a 3.

The good: breakfast was plentiful with a good selection and TERRIFIC mango and papaya; rooms very clean; beautiful pool; clean and relatively secluded beach with easy access; pleasant and helpful staff; lots of staff and large grounds with few guests (even though hotel was full); easy to get cabs to get into town; good burgers and sandwiches on lunch menu.

The not so good: LOTS of mosquitos particularly at the north end of the hotel (not nearly as many near the beach or dining area); tile floors and an AC unit which was either providing too much or not enough cool air (no one I talked to could get the control correct with even 1 degree cooling difference); other meal buffets not terrific; you HAVE to take a cab to get into town (4 minute ride costs $10 US each way, most expensive cab ride we found anywhere in the country); most rooms seem to be designed for couples-very few with 2 beds for families; very few English speakers (this is a comment not a complaint but taking Best Western name and claiming to be a resort it would be nice to have better communication with staff); we booked through Booking.com and the hotel charged our card 5 months AFTER our "you can not cancel" reservation confirmation (and this caused some problems with our credit card shortly before our trip).

Bottom line is it is a beautiful hotel grounds, rooms are clean and provide enough space and the staff is very pleasant and helpful despite having few English speakers. It is a good hotel for a quite and relatively secluded romantic weekend. For us not a great hotel for family travel. A good but not great experience.

We stayed here in June during the World Cup so all hotel prices were vastly inflated (I think). This place is quite lovely and tranquil. Not any nearby restaurants or shops that one can walk to (my impression) although we did not explore on foot much. It seems more remote than the OTHER Best Westerrn nearby, and I got mixed up while driving and stopped there first. the Solar seems to have more little restaurants and shops nearby and is on cobblestoned street vs dirt road access. From the Solar, when directed to the Viva, we got terribly lost and hubby was frantic about the dirt roads and one-way streets in Porto de Galinhas proper. PROBLEM: the confirmation email has the address of Avenida Bei Mar in PG, and this is not correct! It is nowhere on that street! It is off Route 9, (Senhora de O' route) and one turns at the Villages Hotel street sign. There is no Best Western sign for this hotel on the main road (rt 9) but there is a small wood one on the dirt road entry pointing to the left after the Villages. We drove on back and dirt roads for an extra hour trying to find this mysterious place and the posted phone number of +55 8135520001 on the confirmation is a non-working number. Several stops and questions to locals in broken Portuguese finally got us here. The fairly new expressway ($R 5.60 each way) for route 60 that connects Porto Galinhas to Recife really cut down the travel time from the airport to about 40 minutes vs the hour plus we had expected so that was a nice surprise. GPS maps on our rental car device had not been updated to this new route so we went by the brown signs to PG. My second big piece of advice is that the US booking system I used for this hotel created a problem. I put in 3 people on my search and selected a King bed and single bed combination thinking I would get a nice big room for parents and daughter. My confirmation letter showed only 1 person on the reservation, and when I contacted the hotel they said I would have to pay an extra 25% charge as she was 16 years old. When we arrived we were given a standard double room with a King (smallish) bed and they were going to give us a single on the side. There was very little room for anything, let alone an extra bed, and I was quite put out given the cost of the room and the 25% surcharge. We did not want to pay that for a cot and a squashed room. After some dialog with the front desk they moved us to a room on the 3rd floor with 2 queens which was MUCH bigger. I would recommend this to anyone selecting rooms and the queens seemed almost the same size as the King. Thie extra payment for a 3rd person seemed very common as another US group staying here had the same problem, so don't think on U.S. terms where you can put 4 in a room often without paying extra.

On Food, the dinner buffet was okay, nothing special although desserts were yummy. We would have gone elsewhere if it was easy without a car. $25 US ($R520 ) per person plus drinks makes it an expensive option. There were some mosquitoes by the pool/restaurant area at night which ate up my daughter but did not bother me, so wearing long sleeves/pants at dinner is a good idea and tolerable at night. Breakfast is included (thank goodness!) and a good big selection with great fruit, eggs, various local dishes, cereal, breads etc.

Lastly, there is a spa on the ground floor, we did not use the services but another guy sat in the jacuzzi and then was presented with a bill for $R30 so ask before assuming they are free. Since there is no resort fee I think everything comes at a price.

this is a detailed review to help others with their experience and by no means reflects dissatisfaction with the hotel. The staff wass lovely, especially Adson the bellman who ran around and helped us, and I would stay here again just knowing more what to expect. Lovely pool, retairant, very clean, big bathroom.

Room Tip: see my comments in my review - queen beds on 3rd floor is a much bigger option than king bed with si...

My wife and I just returned from Porto de Galinhas after a 5-day stay at BW Vivá with our two small girls (ages 2 and 4). There isn't much English spoken at the hotel, but the staff is courteous and attentive anyway. We found the front desk, restaurant staff, bellmen, and and others to be friendly and helpful.

We had a standard room on the ground floor, which despite an orientation that could offer a sea view, the ground-floor location provided us with only a tiny glimpse of the big blue beyond the coconut trees. The room included a fridge, safe, large shower, desk, adequate bathroom, and average to smallish floor space. Tile floors throughout. There is a respectably-sized balcony with a chair, side table, and single-person hammock.

The semi-private beach is perfectly acceptable for some fun times, but be aware that there is a strong undertow and current. During low tide, the beach is calm with a large stretch of shallow water for playing. At high tide, the beach shrinks considerably and is swallowed by large waves full of seaweed. Not many seashells if you like that sort of thing, but just after high tide, we found a complete sand dollar, a Portuguese man-of-war, and some small shells.

The hotel has awesome, sprawling pools, many of which are shallow enough that we could let our girls play without worry. This was awesome. Drinks and food can be ordered poolside, including gorgeous cocktails served in hollow pineapples and green coconuts with amazing fruit-art trim. Cocktail prices are really reasonable for Brazil, as are the meals at the more-than-adequate buffet restaurant. We ordered off the menu a few times, though, and found the a la carte items to be a better value.

There is an outdoor playground that is very adequate, a soccer pitch and basketball court for the big kids, and a great indoor kids' club with lots of toys and activities. Additionally, the hotel arranges optional activities for children and adults at night-- pick-up games of duck-duck-goose, freeze tag, etc were big hits with our kids. And despite the language barrier, the staffers did a great job of including our girls and making them feel special.

Location is peaceful, safe, and quiet-- but you'll be about 4km from Porto de Galinhas without any realistic shopping options for a quick snack, pack of gum, etc. Taxis are readily available, though, and a trip to town will cost R$20 each way. Takes about 10 minutes each direction.

All in all, we had a great stay. We loved the resort more than many of the others we've tried all over Brazil, particularly with our kids. Thanks, Best Western Vivá!

The good - and this is a important tip - the best 2 rooms are on the 4th and 3rd floor, (perhaps 2nd but less privacy), pool facing, suites with jacuzzi. You can listen to the live music at night from the restaurant area, soak with your spouse for hours in your foaming jacuzzi, which is on the balcony, gazing at the Ocean. No elevator but the bellmen will bring your suitcases up and down (tip them naturally, such as in our case lifting 2 heavy suitcases of 23 kilo each plus accessory bags four floors in the heat is rather sweat invoking). Anything other than these rooms and there is no way we would have stayed 6 nights.

The hotel has 6 or 7 divided pools, well configured with very large ankle deep areas that you can slide your recliner into the pool and lay around all day while being served coco water, or meander onto the beach and do the same thing in the sand.

This is a very children friendly hotel so if you are travelling with children and budget concerned, then this is a place to stay.

Finally, we liked the spa because it had a heated pool, big TV to watch the Confederation cup while lounging, and the massages were correctly priced (can't recall now but regular Brazil prices- not gouging).

The bad: mosquitoes at this hotel were worse than Manuas or Belem. SO no doubt, bring the repellent DEET 30% (OFF at only 15% deet contents will not work for these mosquitoes - we had both brands and after many bites, switched back to the 30% DEET).

Our checkin took from 2pm until 5pm because each side of the 4 floors has one cleaner so she starts at 8am but it takes her until 5pm to clean all the rooms. Suites last. The hotel made up for it by allowing us a very late check out at 5pm because our return flight to the USA was at 2am from Recife albeit was had to ask about 20 times and only finally the last night the moved us to a different room and granted the late check in. That is why we know that the suite is the way to go and the regular room only if you are desperately poor and cannot shell out the US$250/night.

Finally, a lot of bugs in this place, like dead roaches (dead is way better than alive) and the like. But its on the coast of North East Brazil - I guess just goes with the territory.

The ugly: the breakfast had so many flies, flies in the honey, on the breads and fruits, swarming the regular foods... this hotel really needs to consider better methods of pest control. The pot hole, dirt road to the hotel is so bad the taxis complain to drive down it each time. I've seen worse in Brazil especially in the eco areas where there are no roads at all, just off road over dunes and brush. But at some point the road needs to be leveled and filled in or taxis are going to charge a premium. The mosquitoes in the spa required 30% DEET to drive them away.

The funny is that a guest stole my unique swim trunks - we know this because we saw him wearing them (they have a number "3" sewn into them), pointed at him, and then he disappeared into the hotel building. This cat and mouse game continued for three days. Finally he turned them into lost and found. Not the hotel's fault but be aware of it - don't leave your personal stuff, like tshirts and outer clothing laying around or drying on the balcony furniture. May go missing.

Room Tip: Only choose the suite with the jacuzzi, 4th or 3rd floor, maybe 2nd but not 1st (unless you're a...

It seems that resorts are growing in popularity here in Brazil. This is the second resort i have stayed at recently. This seems like a new place, they haven't finished the access road, it is currently a potholed mud track with a tiny wooden sign from the highway. GPS struggled to find it also.
The room was a great size with a good balcony complete with Hammock. The bed was comfortable, the water hot and powerful.
Despite being new, this place doesn't have elevators. My stay on the 4th floor meant that i had a bit more exercise than I planned this weekend.
The pools are great, poolside drink service was decent and the cocktails they brought over excellent.
We took a buggy down to Porto de galinhas for R$15 which is great value I think and left us free to eat drink snorkle shop whatever we wanted and then took another back later.
We stayed half board which covered breakfast and dinner but didn't cover soft drinks with dinner which i thought was odd. The food was a buffet for both meals. I found Breakfast to be excellent and dinner to be reasonable. The desserts were outstanding.
We had some mosquito issues so I would recommend taking insect repellent to apply before bed. Next to the hotel is a vacant lot with lots of puddles so i am sure the blame can be laid there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the ocean end of the building on a lower floor

We just left this place and it was an amazing 3 night stay. We only spoke English but we managed to do everything we wanted. We stayed in one of the spa rooms on the beach end, this was heaven!
The beach was just awesome, they had drink and food service and very nice staff.

This is not typical best western it is so much better.

I would tell anyone to stay here - we loved it and would go back now.
