“Nice project, old displays”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2012

Great so see a project where they are working on survival of the seahorse. Outside of the village in the river delta are a couple of places where they still live in the wild.
The displays are a 30 some old aquariums (at least that’s how they look) with many of them containing seahorses. Not a lot of English around so I presume they are breading them 
Kids loved it because you don’t see these animals around that often and they are beautiful indeed.

“Projeto Hippocampus”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2011

Projeto Hippocampus is a small research and viewing center in Porto de Galinhas, geared towards the study and preservation of Brazilian seahorses. This was actually part of our dune buggy tour of the area, stopping here for about 45 minutes to check out the dozens of aquariums filled with many different seahorse and other marine species. I wouldn't say that this is a "must-see" if you are traveling to Porto de Galinhas, but it was fairly interesting, and since the R$4 fee goes towards the research and preservation project, I would recommend it. It is right near the highway entrance into town, so if you have an hour or so to spare, stop in and check it out. There is also a small gift shop that has a selection of souvenirs.
