Owner description: Largest hydroelectric power plant in the world, Itaipu is the current world record holder in power generation and is considered one of the 7 wonders of modern engineering. Built on the Parana River, the seventh largest river in the world, between Brazil and Paraguay, it is 8 km wide, has a maximum height of 196 m and a lake of 1350 km². Itaipu enchants not only for the dimensions and technical aspects, but also for being a vanguard in sustainability and tourism, with several options of visits, from the classic Panoramic Tour and the award-winning Special Tour, that leads to the interior of the plant, to boat trips on the lake and night tours of the plant. Visiting Itaipu is to know, closely, what human capacity can accomplish.

“Great Human Work”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

It was a great tour. Amazing the size of it and all the technology in place. The guides were about average and missed some more technical information but overall the tour was great. They give a good testimony of care for the people and the environment as well.

“Bus trip to Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

An interesting place to visit and the bus tours there are very good and cater well to the needs of the tourist. The buses as comfortable and air conditioned. It's helpful if the driver knows English to explain what you are seeing if you don't understand Portuguese. Best to see this place on a fine, sunny day.

“Bus trip to Itaipu Dam”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Most interesting and informative sightseeing trip. It's helpful if the driver can also speak English to help you understand what you are seeing or otherwise travel with a Brazilian friend who can explain details of the place to you,

“impressive enterprise and surprising visitor center”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

no doubt the ITAIPU dam is worth a visit, even if you're not into all the technical details. Have a look at the very informative web page where there are all the details on the different kinds of visits and tours. You can also buy your tickets on-line

“Clean energy in a giant dam”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

There are 2 different kinds of visit for the general public, external visit and especial visit (the best option). The especial visit you can see inside the dam, the generators and control stations. The especial visit needs to be booked.
