I confess that my stay at Das Cataratas was great not because of what the site and publicty promises, but from what I saw when I was present ,between this fabulous time. The sounds of the falls is incredible!!!
Since our first day we realize how much they want to please us, being friendly and sensitive way with the Brazilian charming. Bruno, confess, you were fantastic, your presence in this hotel made our stay unique.
Since coffee not so different) but gourgeus, until the best of "tours" already invented, the macaco safari boat. The girl of the office,Jéssica, give us your smile and her kindness and she won the trust and happiness of our family, this girl is simply fantastic and the tours that she offered. Thanks for made our vacation so good.
And for finish, the wonder of walking with the biologist resident who makes us feel immersed in that lush landscape.
We want to return but, with time for reviewing these our new friends and this place that made us feel enchanted and unique with the wonder of Iguassu! Thank you.

This hotel has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. What a shock that it is affiliated with the Orient Express chain. It is so obvious that the managment of Orient Express has chosen to avoid Quality Assurance withing the Hotel das Cataras. The Hotel itself is a beautiful Grande Dame with a staff of brilliant people just dying to know what to do to serve the guests. During our stay, we encountered at least one such person in the bar, our server Nacir. Of all the staff , he exemplified a strong sense of "ownership" of the hotel and a real desire to make certain that guests are happy and attended to. Nacir "gets it." So much for the other folks on the staff whom should be under his leadership.

The pool staff is amazingly attentive and the pool area is very clean. Kudos!

Some tips for the guests:

Breakfast is included.. probably one of the best meals you might have during the day. Bon Apetit! Eat a hearty lunch at one of the buffet restauraunts such as Las Canoas in the Brazilian Park at the Bus Station or at one of the restaurants at the Park on the Argentinian side. These offer a really good local taste of grilled picanha and some wonderful desserts. For dinner, finger food at the bar and some drinks or pick up some cachaca , sugar, limes and order a bucket of ice from room service. Do not, I repeat DO NOT order the buffet in the hotel restaurant. Its just average and you wll pay out of your nose. We ordered a la carte and still not great but possibly a better choice than the buffet.. (see several reviews where this topic is concerned).

Orient Express, please make a surprise visit to Hotel das Cataratas. Eat in your dining room as a guest. Stay in your rooms and you will see how you excel and where you have fallen short. Yes, you pretty much have your guests once they are in your hotel. If they have to spend so much for a buffet, make darned certain its " up to par." When you compare this hotel with others in your portfolio such as Ritz in Madrid and Keswick Hall in Virginia, does Hotel das Cataratas measure up? I don't think so.

Lovely hotel; I spent 4 days here on my own at the end of a business trip to unwind and it was worth it. The accommodation is excellent; public areas clean and lovely and I found the staff very kind and helpful even when they messed up my dinner reservation. Nor did I feel unwelcome or uncomfortable as female travelling alone. Come expecting to pay because its expensive and (breakfast aside) the food is not as good as it thinks it is. But that is not to say its not good because it is. I did not think that the trips offered by the concessionary tour operators (ie boating and rafting) were particularly good value. What is truly wonderful is that hotel guests get access to the falls when the park is closed for visitors. It is this that makes this hotel truly special.

What a shame! With its privileged location, this historic hotel with its own walkway down to the falls should be a delight. Alas, poor service undermines the experience. The front desk is completely disorganzed. There is no Concierge. The Tour Desk, which organizes cars to and from the airport, is not up to the task. Orient Express sullies its name by associating itself with this property.

This is a best hotel to stay in when visiting Iguazzo Falls. It is located right in the park with magnificant views of the fall, and the sunt sets should not be missed. Just Gorgeous. The hotel is run by the Orient Express chains, it's been renovated recently and it's absolutely beautiful, the grounds, the pool the restuarant it's just a great example of a five star hotel. Since they are new they still don't have a gym and a spa, I am sure they will have those soon. Of course for this type hotel and great service you have to pay the cost. But it's worthed.

Hotel das Cataratas has to be one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.
Great rooms, quiet air con, lovely Granado toiletries.
Wonderful location, with front seat views of the falls. Got the place to yourself at breakfast and dinner, when the park's closed to everyone else.
Great service (cold flannels by the pool, plus free glasses of iced water, and a lifeguard to smooth out your towels on your sunbed), Maitre d in suit and tie even in 33 degree heat. Feels like a posh country club, but the guests are completely dressed down.
Excellent breakfast, and snacky lunchtime menu.
And it is really worth spending the £10 per head to do a walk though the jungle behind the hotel with the resident biologist. This is not a walk on a wide groomed path. You clamber over branches, and push through foliage to see the hummingbirds, and animal prints.
