“Excellent Stay!!”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

This was an excellent stay. Best service I have ever had. The food was excellent and the rooms were wonderful. I especially liked taking my cocktail to the front patio of the hotel and enjoying the views of the waterfalls. It was a very expensive stay however I only did two nights there and the rest at another hotel. It was definitely worth the price of staying there for those two nights but if you stay there too long you might go broke. Well worth the Orient Express Name!!!

This is absolutely a 5 star hotel. When you arrive, the meet & greet person reels off the list of celebs who have stayed there previously. I can only remember Roger Federer and Princess Diana :)
The service is extremely good, the rooms are very comfortable and the only criticism I have - and that's just because I'm a tea addict - is the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room. That said, none of the hotels we stayed at in Brazil had them.
Eating at the hotel is not cheap and the menu is actually quite limited but the food is good. The best part, however, is that you are right in front of the falls and if you get out there before 9am - when the National Park opens - you are able to absorb the full majesty of these falls in peace and quiet.
We had to leave at stupid 'o' clock in the morning to make a 6am flight and the hotel had laid on a light breakfast just at the side of the reception desk so that we didn't leave on an empty stomach. Nice touch.

Room Tip: The hotel only has two floors. First floor, front facing for a view of the falls from the room.

My friend told me we had to stay here if we were going to see Iguacu Falls. We were hesitant about the cost but found an incredible deal on a website called Luxury Link. It was worth every cent we paid. This is the only hotel within the park and you can HEAR the falls from your room. And your room will be amazing. HUGE. Very beautiful. We had dinner at the hotel buffet and it was worth the money we spent. I got up early in the morning and ran right down to the falls. I was there with not ONE OTHER SOUL. Unbelievable place. When I walked down with our group later that morning there were a lot of people everywhere. Get up and go early - and you can only do that if you are staying at this hotel. They say that once you have seen Iguacu Falls then you can die. I'm glad to still be alive and glad we stayed at Hotel das Cataratas.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your kind review on the Hotel das Cataratas.

We are all very pleased to hear that you did enjoy your stay with us.

Your are completely right when you say that going down to falls early in the morning, when the park is still closed makes it a completely different experience. It's like having a nature wonder on private basis!

The falls are amazing & so is this hotel.
We had 2 days & wish I'd stayed for 3. Weather wasn't great on day 1 & we hadn't really packed warm gear. The large fire place was a welcome retreat with a glass wine after dinner though!
You would expect elegance, exceptional service & the luxury afforded with an Orient Express hotel & I guess you get what you pay for here.
The main attraction are the falls - simply incredible. Takes your breath away. We did a helicopter flight & boat trip p to the falls. Both trips I would recommend even if the helicopter is a little pricy for 10 minutes.
The bird garden at the entrance to the national park, walkable in 2 mins from the hotel reception at the gates - is excellent. My wife stroked a toucan & you can really get up close & personal with some of the birds & we spent a good couple of hours here.
I would have given the hotel 5 stars but I begrudged paying their expensive prices for wine. We also skipped the al a carte dinner as the savings helped to pay for the helicopter trip. If we were going to spend upwards of £150 on dinner my wife likes to dress up & whilst clearly she could have, surprisingly the hotel wasn't really that kind of place & the al a carte restaurant was rather large & you could easily get lost in it if there weren't many diners.
My favourite time was last thing at night as the sunset or early morning. You have the palce to yourself.
I would seriously recommend any one visiting the falls, this is the only place to stay.

Our family of 5 stayed at the Hotel in august and we were impressed with every aspect of the resort. Our suite was huge and absolutely beautiful. The bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was extremely luxurious.

The property is so beautiful and romantic even with 3 boys in tow.

The food was delicious and the breakfast buffet was fresh and creative every day.

If you can afford it, this is the only place to stay if you are visiting the falls. The hotel is beautiful and the access to the falls exceptional. You can view the falls at sunset and sunrise with no crowds. It is also possible to do a full moon viewing with the hotel.
The breakfast was very good and the setting next to the pool very nice. The problem is the evening meal, we went to the main restaurant on our first evening, the food was average and exceptionally expensive. The second night there was a choice of a buffet at 122 r per head or bar food. We opted like many other people for the bar food, which I had to say was very good, but not an ideal setting. It would have been nice to sit in the pool side restaurant to eat.
Apart from the food issue, the hotel staff were very helpful and the rooms of a good standard.

From the time we checked-in, the service level was excellent. great location although our room was facing the road and coaches were parked outside. So, couldn't open the curtains.(we were given the room as a garden view room). But overall the whole experience was great - very peaceful with a nice pool and spacious, very clean rooms. Will definitely stay in this hotel if we visit Iguazu Falls again. Will recommend to anyone.
