“Careless service - ranking not deserved :-(”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

Visited because of trip advisor #1 rank, but... Nice little italian style restaurant, numerous staff but we got no attention :-(
Two different waiters, couldn't tell which was worst.
Wouldn't come back or suggest

“Go for the palmito pizza amd bruschetta”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2013

We tried 5 different dishes in total during two days. The bruschetta and the palmitopizza where the best ones. The pasta and other pizzas were average.

“Straight out of the set of the Godfather”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Ever wonder what it would have been like for Michael Corleone during his 1940's/50's sojourn to Italy in the Godfather? Well now you know because the people of Vo Bertila have replicated it for you in great detail. I didn't notice it at first, but my husband pointed out that the whole place had a fake Hollywood set feel to it. Then, I noticed that all the waiters are were in costumes, and there was an old timely record player in the corner. It isn't Disneyfied per se, but it does feel like a really good, and in all fairness, cool movie set. Case in point, there is a 1950's "real" brick oven and "kitchen" that is enclosed in glass for the diners to see. But if you look into the glass room, through the back door, you can see the real, very modern, no frills kitchen. This isn't really a strike against them, but I could see how some people may be turned off by it.

Anyway, kitsch aside, I think the pizza is pretty good. It isn't authentic-whatever that means-but it is pretty consistent with the Brazilian interpretation of pizza. I think that it is hard to label something as authentic or not because often food is interpreted differently and interestingly in different cultures. Chinese food in India is very different from Chinese food in the US or China for that matter. That said, they are all equally good (to me). I like the Brazilian interpretation of pizza, so it way pretty good to me.

All in all, the crust was good (a little thicker than I am used, but good), the ingredients were fresh and the overall preparation was tasty. I took one star away because the pizza was a little greasy. Would I rush back? Probably not, but this is a very good and fun option in a town with not much going on. Also, keep in mind that the menu is in Portuguese and the staff don't speak English. This is fine, but you may need to bring your smartphone or a Portuguese to English translator if you are picky about what's on your pizza. We were not and it seemed like more fun anyway. They do have about a million choices. We like the eponymous Vo Bertilla pizza and the eggplant one, if that's any help. Also, two smalls are MORE than enough for two adults.

“Great Place with Great Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

Easy to find, and very well-decorated. We (2 persons) ordered one small mixed pizza, one small mixed sweet pizza and one dessert. Of course with drinks. The price is suprisingly affordable and the size of the pizza is really not that small. We looooooooooooove the pizzas, especially the sweet one-- banana with white chocolate. I've never had a pizza like this. The only discomfort was a waiter's unwillingness to switch on the air-conditioner with the hotness inside, thankfully another waitress had it delt with.

“Excellent italian food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

Both the pizza and the penne we asked were delicious. The restaurant is very well decorated in an old italian house style. Portions are well sized, so be aware if you are alone!
