We stayed at Second Wind Country Inn Bed & Breakfast for two nights. We were visiting Duluth Tall Ship weekend and then went east to get to Apostle Island. Knowing nothing about the area we did not know where to stay. This being the end of July and high season, all the hotels in the Bayfield area were booked, so we tried Ashland, only 20 miles east. We were lucky the Internet search brought us to Second Wind. We rented one of the large lofts since there were 6 of us. There was one private bedroom with queen bed and an open loft on the second floor with a queen bed and two full-size futons. Only one caveat: there is only one bathroom and it can get crowded near the door :-)
The place is new, beautiful and very clean. You feel like you staying with your favorite aunt! One of the great things about the rooms: there was no TV but lots and lots of board games for every age. We end up playing UNO with our 8- and 10-year olds. It was a lot of fun. Having donkeys, goats, cows and horses in teh petting zoo area was fun. Unfotrunately arter a big rain the groung was wet and we did not want to go closer to the animals and get dirty. I played with a gorgeous cat (blue-eyed, mind you!) who unfortunately for me is not allowed inside because Kelly is concerned about clients who may be allergic to cats.
I wish we could communicate more with Kelly and her husband but they went to see tall ships in Duluth and left the next morning. Her house-sitter Naomi was wonderful and very helpful. Breakfast was great! Our guests from Ukraine were extremely impressed with the whole experience. They said (and I agree) that the stay at Second Wind was the pinnacle of our whole trip.
We liked the town of Ashland and its murals. It was fun to expore them and walk around town. Kelly recommended two places to eat while in Ashland and we were impressed too!

Dina,
We are so glad you loved Second Wind!!! Us heading up to the Tall Ship Festival and the north shore of MN was a refreshing get-a-way, but as we left (with your family just arriving) we were sad to know we were not going to get to hang with you all. I'm so grateful to Naomi and crew that they took such great care of you all.
Come see us again and we'll stay home!
Kelly

My husband and I loved our stay at Second Wind. We stayed in a loft, which was very clean and comfortable. At breakfast the food was superb (the scones with lemon curd and raspberry sauce was my favorite) and so was the company of the other guests and the hosts. We liked how breakfast was cooked and served right in the kitchen. It was very homey. We loved being out in the country and the animals were entertaining. We will definitely come again and bring our children. If you are looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday demands, relax and enjoy good cooking, then this is the place for you. Families and couples are both welcome.

We had never been to to the Second Wind before and were very impressed. The location was beautiful. The animals were so fun to watch right from our enormous windows in the northern lights loft. Mark and Kelly were so kind and helpful. They made us feel like family. You could choose to interact as much or as little as you wanted. We found them delightful. The rooms were immaculate and super comfortable. We had three breakfasts and all of them amazing. It's hard to tell which was my favorite. The secret sconces are still in my head though. I hope we can return again it was so relaxing and wonderful. I also miss watching the donkeys! This place is a little gem. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: I saw all the rooms and you can't go wrong. I personally like being on the side of the house wi...

Second Wind Country Inn B & B is a wonderful gem in the great north country. Located just outside of Ashland, WI, I have stayed many times!!! Kelly and Marc provide a warm and cozy bed and breakfast. Truly a great escape. Each time I have stayed (3x) the loft is pristine and inviting. Breakfast is alway spectacular. The scones are heavenly.

Very nice location a mile or so out of Ashland. Great B&B with some very fine planning... every thing is perfect. We stayed in a room on the main floor, and plenty of room for two people, and two kids if you wanted. We toured the place, and the lofts were big enough for at least two families. The breakfasts are wonderful, and the smoothies are great =) Loved the animals...so sweet!! Even deer came out in the evening. Nice to get away from the hustle and bustle. Got my sleep clock back in sink, which was good. I think Shawnee P needs to chill out...no wonder they could not relax!! Nothing is forced on you...if you don't like it, forget about it any enjoy!! Exploring Ashland was fun...don't miss Trinko's Sausage and Frankies Pizza and the brewing company... good food!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, just depends on how many people you have staying.

We had a wonderful weekend at Second Wind. Mark and Kelly were amazingly hospitable. Breakfast was beyond expectations. We stayed in one of their lofts and the space was very clean and cozy. Found this place through a living social special. Did some research on the area and decided to book our getaway. The inn is very comfortable, warm and inviting. The Innkeepers were friendly and made us feel welcome. After a tour of the Inn we did wish we would have booked one of the loft suites, they are amazing (so are the guest rooms). After a recommendation from Kelly we took a drive into Michigan and saw some beautiful sites. Winter on Lake Superior is breathtaking. Breakfast at the in was very good, Kelly is an amazing cook, she also made a decadent cake that was delightful as a late night desert. We really enjoyed our stay it was a super way to reconnect and recharge.

Room Tip: Try one of the loft suites!
