We stayed at Second Wind Country Inn Bed & Breakfast for two nights. We were visiting Duluth Tall Ship weekend and then went east to get to Apostle Island. Knowing nothing about the area we did not know where to stay. This being the end of July and high season, all the hotels in the Bayfield area were booked, so we tried Ashland, only 20 miles east. We were lucky the Internet search brought us to Second Wind. We rented one of the large lofts since there were 6 of us. There was one private bedroom with queen bed and an open loft on the second floor with a queen bed and two full-size futons. Only one caveat: there is only one bathroom and it can get crowded near the door :-)
The place is new, beautiful and very clean. You feel like you staying with your favorite aunt! One of the great things about the rooms: there was no TV but lots and lots of board games for every age. We end up playing UNO with our 8- and 10-year olds. It was a lot of fun. Having donkeys, goats, cows and horses in teh petting zoo area was fun. Unfotrunately arter a big rain the groung was wet and we did not want to go closer to the animals and get dirty. I played with a gorgeous cat (blue-eyed, mind you!) who unfortunately for me is not allowed inside because Kelly is concerned about clients who may be allergic to cats.
I wish we could communicate more with Kelly and her husband but they went to see tall ships in Duluth and left the next morning. Her house-sitter Naomi was wonderful and very helpful. Breakfast was great! Our guests from Ukraine were extremely impressed with the whole experience. They said (and I agree) that the stay at Second Wind was the pinnacle of our whole trip.
We liked the town of Ashland and its murals. It was fun to expore them and walk around town. Kelly recommended two places to eat while in Ashland and we were impressed too!
