This is indeed, one of the most beautiful Aleijadinho's ouvres, indeed, a masterpiece of the barroque religious architecture. As if it wasn't enough the outside design of this amazing church, its inside is incredibly decorated with many pictures and sculptures signed by the master of the brazilian XVIII century barroque.

Considered Aleijadinho's masterpiece, this church is a 5 stars attraction! Aleijadinho designed the structure and was responsible for the wood and soapstone sculptures on the portal, high altar, side altars, pulpits, and crossing arch. The panel on the nave ceiling representing the Virgin's glorification was painted by Ataíde. Cherubic faces, garlands of tropical fruits, and allegorical characters carved into the main altar are still covered with their original paint. Fantastic!

A beautifully decorated chruch on the inside, unfortunately you're not allowed to take pictures inside. The entrance fee is quite steep.

The decor is the handiwork of a famous Brazilian artist and he doesn't disappoint.

Antonio Francisco Lisboa (Aleijadinho) curved the entire exterior and the interior was painted by his long time partner Manuel da Costa Ataide.

Not as grand and spectacular as the Igreja Matriz de Santo Antonio in Tiradentes.

R$8 to go in, NO photos allowed. There are faded postcards for sale if you fancy.
