“Very good place to stay at when you are in Bonito”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

I stayed here for a week and it was very nice. The people working at the reception are very friendly and are always helping you when you have a question. The people at the restaurant are very friendly. There is also an office at the hotel/pousada where you can ask for trips and excursions. They are not only very friendly, but also really checking which excursions are really interesting for you. So, they are really checking it from the customers point of view, which is very good. It was also the first hotel in Brazil that I have been where they have not only one, but even a few people that can speak (very good) English. I recommend this hotel to all my friends, family and anyone that wants to stay in Bonito.

The only improvement I can come up with is Bonito related and not directly related to this hotel. The point I want to mention is the problem of dogs on the street that are barking till 1:00 in the night. But as already mentioned, this is a Bonito problem and not a problem the hotel can do something about. So, no matter which hotel in Bonito you take. Please take earplugs with you if you can't sleep when dogs are barking.

The hotel is off a dirt road approximately 10 blocks from "downtown" Bonito. We had a driver contracted to take us places, but had this not been the case a taxi only at night might be a good idea, though the locals assured us that Bonito is very safe. The hotel and grounds are very pretty and well cared for. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. My 8 year old daughter asked (on her own initiative) the staff at the restaurant to prepare a cake for my friend who was having her birthday. They made a *delicious* homemade cake, decoration and all, and came out singing to surprise my friend. It was lovely. Regarding the rooms, they are spacious, the beds are comfortable (firm but not too firm). The air conditioning works well and was not too noisy. The TV didn't have cable channels, but I'm not much of a TV person so I didn't even care AND even if you are a TV person you will tire yourself with the many amazing excursions Bonito has to offer so there's not much time to worry about CNN or HBO. The bathrooms are relatively small. The shower doesn't have a lot of water pressure nor does it get very hot, but this is pretty common outside the big cities in Brazil. For foreign (non-Brazilian tourists) toilet paper (used) should be thrown in waste bins as the pressure will not flush it down. (Also common here, just a little note in case this is something new.) There is an outdoor and indoor pool, small gym and restaurant on property. The restaurant had lovely breakfasts, served 6:00-10:00 for people who have early departures for the more distant excursions. Dinners were OK, the meals always came up with a several minute wait between each dish ordered; they were not served at the same time to each person seated at the table. There is a central "kiosk" with hammocks to rest in the shade or read. There is a travel agency onsite that can help suggest and book excursions BUT I HIGHLY SUGGEST PLANNING AND BOOKING IN ADVANCE (DO YOUR RESEARCH TO DETERMINE THE BEST TRIPS FOR YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY) BECAUSE SLOTS FILL UP FAST AND IT MAY BE TOO LATE TO SCHEDULE CERTAIN DAY TRIPS AT THE LAST MINUTE DURING THE HIGH SEASON. I speak Portuguese, but I noticed that some of the staff had difficulty helping some English only speaking travelers, this is probably still the norm in Bonito. It should not deter you from coming to this amazing destination BUT another RECOMMENDATION: MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND DEPARTURE-RETURN TIMES FOR EACH OF YOUR EXCURSIONS, WHAT TYPE OF CLOTHING-BATHING SUITS-SHOES TO BRING, ETC. Each excursion has peculiarities that are important to understand, sometimes tennis shoes are a must (Gruta do Lago Azul), sometimes sun protection is a "no-no" (nascentes - flutuação - Rio Sucuri and Aquário Natural), sometimes you have lockers to leave a backpack, sometimes you don't, etc. Going back to the hotel there is wifi that works around the pool and restaurant (but basically doesn't work in the rooms). Overall we were very comfortable in this hotel and I would definitely go back.

Dear guest,
Thank you very much for reviewing us, we appreciate it.
Our road has been paved, we no longer have a dirt road in front of the hotel. We have a few cable networks now, a nice upgrade we've given to our guests a few weeks after you stayed here. Thank you for your thoughts and we certainly would like to see you here again!

Everything in Aguas de Bonito is outstanding. The apartment is very confortable and food is delicious. The little minus is their crew not able to speak english but they are so friendly that kind of compensate the limit communication skills. I strongly recommend it!

Dear guest,

We appreciate your review, it is very important for us to know that everything was great during your stay with us. About our staff, we have been sponsoring them to study English by paying all costs, but we are aware that takes over a year to have the minimum communication skills. We are sure they will get there.
Thank you very much!

Very good pousada, especially for families with kids. The spa/indoor pool/kids playground area/pool and TV room are extremely welcome. Also worth mentinaing that rooms are equipped with enough blankets and reverse-clcyle air conditionning for heating which was a huge bonus in the chilly winter. What made a real difference, though, was service. We were treated exceptionally weel by all staff, from reception to restaurant and even housekeeping who folded the towels in animal shapes (cleverly done) to the kids' amusement!

I went to a conference in Bonito and brought along my son. We stayed one night in a hotel on the main street of Bonito, and then at the Aquas de Bonito for 4 days. I enjoyed the hotel very much, the grounds and rooms are very nice, the staff and level of service are excellent. They have an indoor game room (billiards etc.) that my son really enjoyed, and the overall grounds are very clean, attractively landscaped, and very relaxing. Excellent breakfast. The staff are most helpful and friendly, among the best I have seen in a long while in any country, and I travel quite a bit.

An on-site tourist/booking office was also a great asset. I spent a great deal of time with the agency arranging excursions to the area, and they were wonderful to work with.

The hotel is about a 5-7 minute walk from the main street in Bonito, a walk we made at all times of day and night, and in good and bad weather. Simply not an issue to us, as it was nice to get a few blocks off the traffic of the main street.

Overall, I would not even consider another hotel if I return to Bonito.

It's the second time I've been there and it's always getting better. The great attraction now is the recently renewed lazer area: they now offer an indoor area with jacuzzi and a warm swimming pool. The gardens are a nice place to relax after the spectacular breakfast or one of the marvelous eco-excursions which you can organize directly in the turism agency inside the hotel. I will come back for sure.

We found this hotel due to poor planning and feel like we lucked out. There are very few hotels with more than 20 rooms in Bonito, so when we started planning some details late in the game, this was one of the few places that could take us in. I am glad they did.

PROS"
1. The staff. Super friendly, helpful and dedicated. Few speak English, but all will try to understand you.
2. Location. The road outside the hotel is still not paved, so the amount of traffic is really limited. Still, you are only five minutes from the center off town (R$10 taxi ride) which is quite convenient. The garden setting also helps ease you into the vacation frame of mind.
3. Value. I felt like the hotel was very reasonably priced for what they offered, including lots of kid-friendly areas and a small pool.

CONS:
For those travelers who look to the hotel to be a big part of their vacation experience, this may not be the right fit. The rooms have all that is necessary, but not much more. Not all rooms have wi-fi and the shower heads heat the water as it is used (electric showerheads). This is very common in Brazil but unusual tthe first time you see it. Also, some of the rooms on the edge of the property back up into construction zones and these get going around 7am. Finally, the food at the restaurant is ok, nothing horrible by any means, but not a gourmet experience. If that is what you are looking for, this may not be the place for you.

Overall, I am very glad we stayed at this pousada which is mostly frequented by Brazilians and gave us a chance to meet a few of them on their vacations.
