Melia Brasil 21
Ranked #11 of 57 Hotels in Brasilia
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 10, 2013

The Melia 21 is rated the best hotel in Brasilia, but I can't see why. While a beautiful building with spacious comfortable rooms, the service is uneven. They do not have irons and ironing boards so our group of 40 people travelling on business had to share 5 irons that were shuttled inefficiently by the staff. All our room keys were deactivated the day before we left forcing us all to get them re-initialized. Not a bad hotel, but certainly not 5 star. If this is the best hotel in Brasilia the others must be omnishambolic.

Room Tip: Rooms 01 to 10 look out over the central park of Brasilia.

Stayed at this hotel on a business trip in March for two nights. Generally an excellent hotel, with fantastic size rooms, well appointed with massive TV, minibar, safe, double shower, iPod docking station etc. Everything you would expect. One small niggle: no tea and coffee making facilities. Hotel is very very clean with large, modern public areas.

My colleague and I arrived early on a Sunday afternoon and decided to enjoy the afternoon around the rooftop pool. It's a small but lovely space, and a real sun trap. A little disappointed that we had chosen to stay at the Melia due to the pool which we discovered empty for routine maintenance; just bad timing on our part. However the staff poolside couldn't do more for us. I must congratulate the Melia for excellent customer service in this regard. We had room service served pool side and were kept in a constant supply of free bottled water.

The location of the hotel means its within walking distance to shops, markets and easy access to taxis.

I have one minor complaint regarding the complimentary wifi (and hence my 4* rating), unfortunately because of the hotspot login using your room number and name I seemed to only be able to have one device connected at a time. Unfortunately I needed to run two devices simultaneously which wasn't possible and a little frustrating. This was the case for both me and my colleague. Whilst this may seem a minor point, for the business traveller, this is often quite important.

Breakfast at the hotel was generally very good with a wide selection of pastries, cheeses, cooked food options and lighter options.

I would definitely recommend the Melia Brasil 21.

Very well located, clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, extremely well equipped and spacious apartment. Free & High Speed WiFi. Sattelite tv channels on two flat screen tv's (one on the bedroom, the other on the living room), bathroom has almost everything except the water pressure could be a little better. Restaurants (such as "Fogo de Chao" gaucho-style steak house), snack bars and shopping centers are at short walking distance, which is of essence in Brasilia. You can waive renting a car, while staying there. Courteous and proficient staff. Expensive, as most hotels in Brasilia, but good value for the money. Certainly will be back.

Room Tip: Acustic isolation is good all through the compounds, so prioritise the view to the giant TV Tower, a...

I was hosted in this hotel for just a night! But, the breakfast is good with some tropical fruits option, breads...

But, the best is the location, very nice!

Restaurants, theaters and nighclubs are very near this hotel. The attendents are polite.

I'll recommend!

Room Tip: The hotel is very near of the National Congress and of the restaurant FOGO DE CHAO!!

This is a high-rise, modern hotel in the center of the city with all of the amenities. Free full buffet breakfast, and wireless internet. Comfortable rooms, although a little small for staying long term as I did (2 weeks). Nice office area on one side of the room, large flat screen TV with about 50 channels, almost all in Portugese language. The front desk staff is very courteous and helpful, and most all speak good English.

Very small bathroom, but adequate. The minibar, like all higher priced hotels can be expensive, even the water, and drinking water is not supplied. It is highly recommended that you do not drink the tap water.
Brazil uses a two bar type electric plug, so be sure to bring a converter, as 220v is used throughout Brazil.

One caution: every phone call, even to get the internet repaired, is added to your bill.
There are a few good restaurants nearby, and for a local treat, try the shwarma and soda sold next to the gas station across the street from the hotel. Delicious!
There is a large fitness center on the first floor, full of hard-bodied young people.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for the bed type that you want. A single traveler may be assigned two twin beds.
