We stayed in the Grand Bittar for a one night stay whilst sightseeing in Brasilia. Normally I check tripadvisor.com before travelling, but this hotel was arranged by a travel agent so I didn't get chance.
I was surprised to see the bad reviews of this hotel: we thought it was fine. The room was big and clean, with a luxurious, clean, big bathroom. The minibar was well stocked and pretty cheap. All of the staff were helpful, and most spoke English. The breakfast was of high quality and had limitless supply.
The worst thing is that the hotel was completely dead during our (Sunday/Monday) stay. The shop was closed, the bar was closed, I couldn't even find the sushi bar advertised (but bet it was closed as well).
If going back to Brasilia I'd stay in a cheaper hotel: they're all in the two hotel zones, so the location would be the same, and there seems to be a big price differential between the others (e.g. Bristol hotel was about a third of the price). I'd also probably try and avoid the weekend when the city felt like a ghost town (although that was cool in its own way!).
