“Amazing view!”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

The view from the top is already worth the visit, simply amazing! Nice little chapel to visit with an interesting story as it was once used as a fort. There's no fee.

“Top of the World”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

I rented a car and learned to drive like a Brazilian. It is no wonder they do so well in motor racing, but driving across this bridge made it worthwhile.
This fort is on top of a huge rock and slaves carried all the materials up there. You can take a bus to the top, but I hiked, as I wanted some idea of the sacrifice these slaves made to do the construction. The hike was interesting and steep. Ancient steps carved into the rock and lots of wildlife. The monkeys are entertaining.
The convent is stone and you will find some sections that have not been restored that will give you some idea of the extent of the rebuild.
No a fancy place, just a good representative of life in the colonial Brazil.
The view is spectacular and a must if you are in the area

“Amazing view!”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

This is a convent built in 1558. There is a small but pretty chappel at the top, but the views are just breathtaking! On one side you can see Victoria, the state capital and on the other side, Vila Velha and the Atlantic Ocean! Go by taxi to the entrance gate and from there it costs R$ 3 to get a ride up and back down in a minivan. If you do want to walk, I suggest you take the ride up and just walk it back down.

“great”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

if you come to Vitoria, this is THE place to visit. not so easy to get there, as it is in the Velha part. By taxi quite expensive as you have to cross the bridge. Being cheap, I took the buss at the stop before the bridge, crossed the bridge by bus, and walked from there (you can't miss), the way back I did the same, just take the buss from the start of the bridge... the forest around the convent is the original atlantic forest vegetation, which one time long ago was to be found in the whole coastal region. now it is almost gone, just 7% left!! So here there is a last piece of autentic forest which a nice old (1588) church on top with nice woodworks! Great views too, great reward after a nice climb! Recommended!

“A magic place”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

The Convento da Penha is a magical place, regardless of religious choice of the traveler. Not only for the beautiful view over the cities of Vitoria and Vila Velha, but also to think about the 500 years of its history. I recommend that the traveler, if you are in good health, go walking by the old road. He will have the opportunity to admire for a good time the atlantic rainforest still preserved.
