I've driven past this house for over 30 years and finally took the time to stop during their most recent Open House. What a beautiful place. In addition to its unique status as the first house with electric lighting, the indoor woodwork is fantastic!

Beautiful old home with gorgeous woodwork and an interesting history. They only drawback was the docent who was a very nice person but had a very halting way of speaking which was difficult to listen to. Half way through, I wanted out. Neat place though.

this was so interesting, a great tour of an important piece of our history - the guide was elegant and knowledgeable, and Hearthstone is one of the most beautifully restored houses I've toured. Dont miss it!

We recently toured Hearthstone with visiting relatives and were very impressed. The home itself is well-restored and furnished with period elements (donate more so they can continue!), and the educational exhibits in the lower level on electricity are excellent (donate more so they can maintain them!). You can even get on a Penny Farthing bicycle and pedal to generate power! We took children ages 6-14. Younger than that may not find it interesting. Do take the guided tour - the volunteers have a wealth of knowledge.

This house is so much more than just an historical home. It is an artifact of America's gilded age with all of the exuberance that went with the new fortunes being made at that time. It is easy to imagine the pride that went into making the elaborate details that flood over the visitor (and the original guests) of this time capsule. How the house survived in as much of it's original condition is a miracle and a tribute to those who had the good sense and/or lack of money to modernize this place. The house is grand but not 'over the top' and should be a must see for anyone in the area.
