Owner description: The History Museum at the Castle presents award-winning local history as well as national exhibits through hands-on experiences that engage people of all ages. We're best known for our exceptional interactive Harry Houdini exhibit that reveals the magician's illusions. Don't miss the exclusive Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion interactive exhibit now through February 3, 2013! We also pay tribute to Pulitzer Prize winning author Edna Ferber, and put Sen. Joseph McCarthy into perspective.

My brother, sister, brother-in-law and I really enjoyed the Leonardo Da Vinci Machines in Motion Exhibit at the HIstory Museum of the Castle. The fact that we got to see and try demonstrations of these machines was really great. Their Harry Houdini and local artist exhibits were also very good collections, but my brother-in-law is a designer and my brother is going to school to be an engineer and they were really interested in the main Da Vinci exhibit. I would definitely recommend stopping in for anyone interested in how things work or history.

Engineers, machine operators, mechanics and architects are fascinated by the Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion exhibit. No one has to tell them to turn the cranks or set the gears in motion! The artful construction and beautiful woods used in the exhibit also make it appealing to art enthusiasts and history buffs. Glad you all enjoyed it, and thank you for the review.Note: Machines in Motion at the History Museum at the Castle ends this Sun., Feb. 3.!

The Castle building alone is worth a visit. It's a gorgeous old mansion with stained glass windows. The permanent exhibits include Houdini and early Appleton history. We were fortunate to be there when they had the special Leonardo da Vinci exhibit. There were amazing, large models of many of his inventions from a printing press to a tank to a flying machine. Visitors were encouraged to interact with most of the models.

Glad you enjoyed our "gem" of a museum! The History Museum at the Castle was built as a Masonic temple in the 1920s. Its castle-like architecture is Norman Revival, reminiscent of medieval castles and churshes with vaulted ceilings, heavy beams and leaded windows. It is a quaint setting for the Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion exhibit, which is open through Sun., Feb. 3. Thanks for your comments!

We really value the comments from repeat visitors. The AKA Houdini exhibit is always fun to explore, and there's much more to learn and see. Hope you had the opportunity to experience the Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion hands-on exhibit. It's here through Feb. 3, 2013. Come back again soon!

The Houdini exhibition is well worth a visit and the local historical display provides a good background to the history of the area. Shame I missed the forthcoming Lenardo Da Vinci event.

Beautiful hardwood machines, touching and twirling encouraged. Museum shop left much to be desired: no DVD documentaries on Houdini, no cheap parlor tricks of grade school majic to be had, no Tony Curtis Houdini saga, either. No Joe McCarthy DVD or anything electric or PBS-like about McCarthyism. No Native Amercan literature or histories of local tribes. While the repurposed Masonic Temple is well worth the snoop...this was the sparest stocked museum shop on record. The staff was the most welcoming, forthcomming, helpful, accomodating...even the shop attendant. The local history displays concerned the wealth which remains evident in the city: paper, wood and coeducational cultivation. The museum shop is dross. The museum staff is golden.
