Very nice hostel, not just empty room with beds, but U can feel the hand of the Owner. The Owner - one of the nicest person I met in Brazil: she took us to samba party, showed everything on the map, told us where to go, what to eat etc. Really, really helpful and friendly! Really clean, really pleasurable. If I am in Fortaleza again, cant imagine staying in a different place!

We only stayed one night. The lady working there was lovely and really helpful.

We had a double room which was very small and the bed was very average - 3 mattresses stacked ontop of each other. The shared bathroom was really run down - I got an electric shock from the shower and the bench which held the basin nearly fell off the wall! the location wasn't great but apparently this is where the cheaper hotels/hostels are in Fortaleza. Overall I was very unimpressed.

very good and centrally located hostel in quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to nightlife, decent restaurants and beach. Clean. Friendly owner speaks English. Aircondition in dorm available as well. Pool billiard and barbecue facilities.

Caritas, the owner of the hostel, is incredibly friendly and will go out of her way to make sure you know your way around town. She was also very helpful both for logistical and moral support while I awaited some lost luggage. I appreciate that she actively asked what she could do to improve the place, it can only mean better things in the future. The free wifi, breakfast, and proximity to the Dragao Do Mar and market areas certainly help.

The only downside may be that there are only two bathrooms which means a little more planning.

Room Tip: The private room has no windows, the dorms are a breezier option.

The hostel is a pretty small hostel, with family type atmosphere - the family lives there as well and their friends hang around regularly.
It has only 2 bathrooms, both with shower and toilet, no other separate toilet though which created a bit of a hazzle in the morning.
The advertisement says that it is international, English is spoken and breakfast included (at least on the homepage through which I had booked it).
Don't be disappointed then if only Caritas, the owner speaks English, and the others have issues to give bus numbers or even explain the way to the bus.
There is a board at the entrance which conveys the idea that events would be organised for the guests like in other hostels - indeed if you ask, these are only suggestions... There's also not a bar or any common area where people could meet and have a drink.
Moreover, all of a sudden I discovered that the breakfast I had booked as inclusive was not included in the price but should be R$10 (which is quite a lot in Brazil for some fruit, coffee, toast and cheap cheese/ham).
Bathrooms were clean, but rooms looked as though they hadn't been cleaned for a while.
Location was also a bit dodgy in the evening, very dark streets, nothing really around and better to take a taxi to come back home after 11 p.m.
For the price charged this was definitely not a value for money accomodation in Fortaleza.

I arrived in Fortaleza off a late flight, so all I needed was a safe place to sleep for the night. I didn't see much of Fortaleza but I got the impression that the word safe was important after the taxi from the airport had to pass through two armed police checkpoints/roadblocks just to get to the city.

Terra da Luz provided an easygoing, friendly and safe environment and a bit more besides with very helpful and friendly staff.

Personally I was headed out the next morning to Jericoacoara on an early bus, which the hostel staff booked for me. The bus was there on time at 8am in the morning, so too easy. Up and out with a decent big breakfast cooked just for me.

If you are doing the same as me...one thing... if you are getting the bus from Fortaleza to Jeri, or vice versa, you can get there for R$50 each way, some companies will try to charge you closer to R$100 so shop around, and pay with exact money as often the drivers conveniently "don't have any change."

Caritas is her name, she is the owner and also runs this hostel. You will first notice her smile and then her wiliness to help. She is a native of Fortaleza so she knows all the ins and out. You will find her as early as 8:30am cleaning the place, the other times she is there helping out like a concierge. The place is clean, spacious, very homie, as it was a home that was turned into a hostel, 2 bathrooms (upstairs downstairs) 5 rooms ( co-ed, single and, mix) breakfast (R$7.00 extra per day), accessible by bus from the airport and all locations. from airport take bus to Rodoviaria and from there take bus to the SEMINARIO. Place not located around a touristy area, is in a neighborhood. good place to eat right behind the Seminario (lunch), small sandwich shop behind the Hostel. Overall you stay will be worth it because of the hospitality.
