It has been a while since we've done backpacking in Brasil but this is one of the top 3 pousadas that we've visitied in a month time. Huge rooms with independent access, very good breakfast, close to the beach and to the village "center". We would have visit some more days, but the prices were too high for a backpacker's budget.

I have returned to Mundo Verde several times since my first stay in 2009, and continue to enjoy the place. I find it of great value in a place where the prices have continued to rise exponentially, especially for lodging. The pousada is spotless, the rooms ample and nicely decorated, the service pleasant and the grounds lovely. The location is perfect, close to the restaurants, not far from the beach (although not really close enough for a quick stroll, more like a 20-25 minute hike.) One caveat: during the Brazilian holidays, the family-friendliness of the place can mean that entire extended families take over the common area, particularly the pool. For other families with children, this can be OK, but if you are alone or as a couple it can be rather loud and annoying.

Beautiful, nice rooms, pool, great view from the pool area (lots of trees and sea). 5 minutes walking until Trancoso "Quadrado" place. Breaksfast with many options. The price is OK, the only complaint here is the extra charge of 10% not only for the services (food/beverages), but also for the room's price. So, just don't forget you will pay 10% more over all your expenses there.

I started travelling to the area in the 70's , when living in
Rio de Janeiro. After leaving the country, I went back many times, not to this particular place, but this means I have sampled many of the hotels and B&B's there.
We also lived in Trancoso for 3 years, but after that, kept coming back for holidays, the place is paradisiac, no doubt. But the choice of accomodation in such area, which has developed because of the tourism only in the past 15 years, can make your holiday a total success or something one will regret for a long time....
Last year was our first time at Mundo Verde (which means Green World). This marvelous place is runned by a couple, a gorgeous Brazilian lady married to a Danish guy, and a team of fabulous people who made every minute of our stay brilliant.

The hotel is located in the old entrance of Trancoso, off the dirt road .There is a new tarmac road now, which would bring you through the other end, so, if you are renting a car and driving from Porto Seguro (the town has an international (though very small) airport, you will follow the only cobbled road, called Rua Principal (main road) to the end, and Mundo Verde is just before the road splits again to get to the Quadrado (means Square, as in the geometrical shape, though it is the main square in town, with the 1700's church in the end of it, a breath taking view of the beaches down the hill...
Then you enter a forest , with well manicured gardens, and 8 houses with two appartments each, one ground, one first floor, plus the owner's house.
All appartments have a great view , and coming to the end of the top of the hill is the reception desk, plus the house that serves as restaurant, a Tv room, and toilettes, ending in a platform with 12,50 meter pool. You can actually swim in it.,low end for the kids, and, this my most loved feature....a hydromassage function that can be switched on by request.....
This was actually what saved my holiday, as I had a pulled muscle, plus 14 hours flight from London in TAM, I couldn't drive for the first couple of days.
Another life saver was the restaurant food.
The night we arrived, I was counting with just walking out to the Quadrado to eat...but was unable to either walk or drive. So I sent my then 10 years old daughter to ask if someone could go get some pizza for us....the owner, Dilma, showed me instead the menu, and in less than half hour we were eating the most marvelous grilled fish, with steamed and seasoned vegetables and white rice.....top quality, so much that we took to eat evenings in there as much as we could, as the prices were very good too.
The morning breakfast is a buffet, self service, and this was so rich, so abundant and inviting, that we would not have lunch until gone 4pm... They serve coffee, tea, milk, herbal teas, fruit, baskets with different kinds of bread, butter & jam, home made muesli with a choice of two different flavours of home made yoghurt, cakes and biscuits, and every day they would change something: one day would be pancakes, another scramble eggs or ommelette, and so on.... and these are only the things I remember....plus the fact that the restaurant has the most amazing view....

The appartments are spacious, very tastily decorated, and with all comfort one could ask for.
The bathrooms with showers which were actually better than mine at home, were the size of my kitchen in London!!!
The air conditioning fantastic, a frigobar with (also) very reasonable prices, and a little lounge area with flat screen TV, and the posibility of watching movies, just request them at reception.
They also have internet access, there is only one PC , the hotel's one, but they make available for use subject to a little price per minute. The other advantage is that one can book day tous with them, and, if they do not book what you are looking for, will be able to direct you to the best.
The location is great as it is less than 5 minutes drive to the beaches down the hill, probably a 15 minutes walk, and you are right next to the touristic area, all the restaurants, bars, clubs and movement is there, still, it isn' t as noisy like one would expect!

Their prices are also very reasonable, like every other
hotel in Trancoso, they have a price on season and a cheaper one off it, and (also unlike lots of other hotels/B&B's there) they have their prices in the web site.

The only thing I would advice would be, if you have any mobility impairments, ask for one of the appartments on the ground floor, and even so, they have quiet a big step to get into the veranda, where the hamok is....I did manage very well, though on crutches, but have to admit I had help all the time. They are a very nice team, one only has to ask....but I'm not sure I would choose Trancoso in general if I was in the wheelchair permanently.
Appart from that, all a fabulous experience.
The owner speaks (of course) Danish, excellent English, brilliant Portuguese and,if I'm not mistaken, also german and Dutch.

As I said: overall an excellent experience. Top quality, my daughter insist that, if we go back next year, we have to stay there!

  • Liked — everything!!!!!!!!!
  • Disliked — the steps to get in thr appartment, but still, did NOT bothered me that much I had help!
