“Fantastic!”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

We (myself, wife and our 7 year old daughter) stayed at Uxua for 5 nights in July 2013. Everything about Uxua is stunning. The location on the Quadrado is perfect since there are heaps of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops close by. The walk to the beach is a quick 10 or 15 mins where they have reserved seating for Uxua guests. The bar at the beach is wonderful as well. All in all Uxua is amazing on every level. Go there and you'll never want to leave! The saddest part of our trip to Brazil was leaving Uxua. We can't wait to go back soon!

If you stay in Trancoso, stay here. Great location, beautiful bungalows/rooms. Carlos the concierge was brilliant. Breakfast was a feast and the restaurant first class.

Uxua was soooo relaxing and was one of the highlights of our trip to Brazil. It's a little pricey but go off-peak and it's so worth paying extra for this taste of luxury!

I never write reviews but I had to this time around - UXUA is utter escapism and I have not had such an amazing holiday experience in a long long time. The service and hospitality of the team was so genuine that you felt like you were part of the UXUA family. The surroundings made you feel you were in a tropical paradise which was made more spectacular with the careful detailing in everything around us and the overall - the rooms were just pure luxury with a calming feeling of space and zen. The location was great too as the hotel is located just on the main Quadrado and the beach only a few minutes away - everyone should visit Bahia once at least, and UXUA is one of it's hidden gems!

Room Tip: GULAB MAHAL is right on the Quadrado and is like your own 2 bed house - perfect for a group of peopl...

I usually never feel strong enough about a hotel to write a review but this one is a MUST! Simply magnificent. Very relaxing, calm, peaceful, zen and everything you need during a vacation. No words can describe this hotel; it’s a hidden gem in Trancoso! This was a girl’s trip with my mom and aunt so I was afraid it would be a secluded couples hotel. Not at all, we felt at home, other families with kids, young adults and of course honeymooners. We stayed in the "estudio" and loveddd the room! Its very spacious for 3 people, closet was huge, small kitchen with all the essentials, but the best part was by far the bathroom! Wow, its open-air double sink facing an exotic plant wall and a double shower where you can see the sky. Be ready to reconnect with nature all around! I absolutely recommend Uxua, and thank you to the staff for making this a unique and memorable experience!

We're just flying home to Australia after having spent the last 4 nights of our holiday at this superb hotel on the Quadrado in Trancoso. We feel a little melancholic to be honest. Believe the overwhelmingly positive reviews, but with the following considerations:

-this is more a cultural immersion than perhaps you'll experience in other parts of tourist Brazil. Don't arrive thinking you're going to go shopping in luxury malls or hip clubs. Firstly, you'll be disappointed because that's not Trancoso, and secondly that would miss the point of coming to this special town. This is the sort of place where the locals play soccer on the irregular, grassy square outside the hotel, where dogs on the street with roll over for a scratch and their owners will talk to you, where a horse wanders randomly around the place (no one could explain this to us) and where restaurants serve traditional, decent food (mostly- see below). This is a side of Brazil you won't see in Copacabana or São Paulo.
-the hotel does not come cheap, all things added up. But that's not to say it doesn't provide excellent value. We don't regret anything that we did whilst here, and I would encourage you to take full advantage of what it and the staff have on offer.

The thing that makes the hotel are the staff. Never before have we known the names of everyone we saw at a hotel, and this reflects the relationship they build with you when you're there, and all of them can be relied upon to help create a unique experience for you. No request is inconvenient, they always have an idea, or a suggestion or a plan, and they open up genuinely about their lives and take interest in yours. Johnny, Paula, Juarez, Rogerio, Lilly, Carlos, Erika, Kelly and Nalva... These are just the people we got to know by name whilst there, and there are others who make the rest of the stay so effortless. Bob, one of the owners, happened to be there and is gregarious and charming, engaged us pretty much every day.

The hotel is simple and beautiful, being very subtly a part of the village. We stayed in Seu Joao, which was perfect for us. The restaurant is fantastic- the breakfast was ample and delicious, and lunch/dinner was superb. Best food we've had in Brazil for sure. Johnny is pretty persuasive, and we would almost always eat more than we planned- we're on holiday, I guess :).

Activity wise- it rained pretty heavy at time during our stay, and initially we were a little sad about this- but there's so much to do, and even if you do nothing, it's so nice to chillout in the rooms. In the end, because of the wet weather, we probably experienced more of the real town that we would have otherwise. Capoeira training - if you're even a bit physically active, do this. Best work out. At least go an watch- its amazing. Ride horses on the beach, wander the square, do a cooking class at the hotel.

When I was trying to think what really made this hotel different, I realised that it was the feeling that it because it didn't feel so much like a hotel. It's more like a cross between a home and a boutique resort, and you get to stay with e family that lives there.

We stayed in one of the villas: EUGENIA last february.
Everything is thought to grant you with a luxuous experience yet not bling.
The villa was perfectly decorated with lots of taste and attention to details, it felt like our home with top class service as a plus in the heart of Trancoso.
The overall settings are very calm and serene.
Breakfast are amazing and the staff will do their best to make your stay simple and nice for any type of activities, sports.
We had a very pleasant and restful stay.
If I have anything to say is that not being right on the beach is a down side as you have to walk 10 min to access the (yet amazing) Uxua beach bar. The way is a bit tricky and "up and down" which can be quite not enjoyable when it is very warm outside.

Room Tip: Each villa is unique in terms of decoration, size, price...

To a New Yorker the travel to Uxua is an extreme travel sport but the effort may make Uxua feel all the more precious. Wilbert's design is inspiring and to be in so much beauty, to be welcomed and helped by the loveliest of staff is well, simply a miracle. Transcoso is such a part of the experience too.
Do take up the staff's suggestions. They know their stuff!
