Very very nice little hotel in salvador! Very large and clean rooms. Very helpfully staff and very good location in the hearth of historical centre.
We think that Studio do Carmo is the best solution to visit Salvador bahia.

Excellent location in the hystoric center, and within walking distance of great sightseeing. The rooms are large and comfortable; clean and well maintained; quiet even if surrounded by musical concerts and drums playing in the streets of the Pelourinho.
Delicious international breakfast; plenty of fresh fruit, and including cake, fresh fruit juice, bread, ham and cheese, and coffee.
The staff were excellent; they friendly and always happy to talk to you as well as providing info.
Thank you so much!!

I stayed at first at room 8, which were a nice room with a good view of the stairs opposite of the hotel, leading to a closed church. The room itself consist of a bedroom, a recently refurbished bathroom, and a storage room in between with a wardrobe.
It were a nice old times feel to the room, even if the furniture are of a more modern date.
But the Wi-Fi were poor in that room during my stay. I could sometimes get a signal in the hall outside my room, but that just won't do. A minor annoyance were a lack of knobs for the towels.

I were on a short holiday, and had initially planned to go somewhere else in Brazil after a shot stay in Salvador, but decided that I couldn't be bothered to move around, and besides, I already knew I liked this hotel. So I booked a different room, number 4, which had a good Wi-Fi signal.

Room 4 is also very charming, it's on the top floor with a slanted roof giving a spacious feel to the room. It's not facing the street, so there's less noise from any eventual church step activities there. If I am going back to Salvador and Studio do Carmo, that's is the room I'd like to stay at.

The staff are very friendly, and helpful when engaged. No problems, just solutions.
I like that attitude.

Having read some bad reviews from this place, I'd like to comment on some of the negative critics, since I had couple of them in mind when I booked.

-The credit card machines are still out, at least the sign saying so are still hanging on the wall, but you can pay via PayPal as well as cash.
-Both rooms I stayed at had AC, which worked flawlessly.
-The long stairs to the top floors. No, they aren't, unless you are completely unaccustomed to use stairs.
A couple of steps are uneven from the others, but nowhere near challenging for a person of working age in normal health. People with mobility problems might have problems with a particular step though.
-Cracks between the planks. None observed in the rooms I stayed at, the cracks were filled in. Guess they mended that problem after it were brought to their attention.
-No ants ever seen.
-Shower pressure weren't very strong, but it was ok, and the heating worked fine for me in both rooms.
-Notes not to dispose of toilet paper in the toilet. So it is.
-Yes, it's in a noisy neighbourhood, at least until midnight. But that's Pelourinho for you, and the hustle and bustle are part of what makes it a interesting place to visit.
The district might be unsafe at late night, but at daytime - evenings - early night I never felt threatened, and I'm a skinny guy, a paler shade of white, obviously not local, walking all by myself. But if the staff advises you to leave something behind, like a big camera, or jewelry, DO IT. There are also some poor and desperate people in the neighborhood.
Again, that's Pelourinho for you.
