Location in Rio Vermelho (Salvador's bohemian area) is good, close to very good restaurants and with easy access to the north beaches.
Public areas are very testefully decorated, the small swimming pool on the roof top has amazing views and having breakfast outside, overlooking the ocean is quite nice. Breakfast itself is good (a la carte), but not excellent, lacks more options and the service is really slow.
We chose a Class Room, which is their top category. They gave us a very spacious one in the main building, huge floor to ceiling, with barroque decor and a tub in the middle of the room. Nice bed (mattress and linen), nice overall mood (though furniture and finishings starting to show some age), very few cable chanels, double sink and a very peculiar bathroom - a steel structure with smoked glass instalated in one of the corners, with toilet and a spacious shower area, with no cover - not for every couple.
Overall experience was good and I don't believe there are other boutique options in the area (Pestana Lodge and Mercure are good, but bigger, chain hotels). Next time I'd consider other options in the Historic Center.More
