When we arrived outside this place, just after dark, there was a loud party in full swing at the hotel, around the pool area. Therefore, the front desk clerk could not hear us ringing the bell at the locked gate. Our driver, was getting upset and seemed nervous to be outside the gate with our luggage etc. When we finally entered the lobby. The inept clerk could not find our reservation and was telling our driver(arranged by the Pousada!) that we had no reservation there. I showed him the booking form and he finally agreed that we had a reservation! Our old, dingy room was at he top of several flights of stairs. It was very hot and noisy. Our friend was shown to a postage stamp sized room that reeked of cigarette smoke! We had requested non-smoking rooms. Her room was absolutely disgusting and she refused to stay there. She was given another newer room but was told "only for one night".
We were hungry after a full day of traveling and a nice lady in the lobby told us that under no circumstances should we venture outside of the hotel after dark! It'd be best to order in a pizza. With her help, we were able to get a pizza...$35USD!
We checked into the Sheraton the next morning.More
