we spent five nights in this wonderful pousada located in the historical center of Bahia.
we left with the feeling to have visited old friends.
we got a comfortable room overlooking the bay-enjoying the sight laying in a hammock set up on our private terrace.
the owners,Stephane and Gerusa, are the most helpful hosts and spent time to give us useful tips for the visit of this stunning city.

My wife and I spent 4 nights in this amazing pousada in June this year and we cannot recommend it highly enough. We had the colonial room, which had an amazing balcony looking out over the bay. The pousada was spotlessly clean, breakfast was great and the location was perfect- 5 minute walk from the heart of the pelourinho, on a beautiful little street that was safe and quiet. What really made our stay though was the staff. Stephane and Gerusa (the owners) went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable; even giving us a lift to the airport when our taxi didn't arrive. The rest of the staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel more than welcome. We loved it, and wouldn't stay anywhere else should we have the good fortune to end up back in Salvador! Thank you very much for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: The colonial room was lovely with a very nice balcony and sea view.

Me and a friend of mine were on a Latinamerican roundtrip and we chose this pousada for our stay in Salvador due to good comments on tripadvisor. Having stayed at lots of pousadas and hotels in Brazil and worldwide, the customer service and general attitude in this pousada was a big, big, big shock for me! It is a nice building with nice rooms (especially the big rooms with seaview) but the customer service and the general attitude of the owners makes this place "WORSE THAN A HOSTEL".

We had already paid the deposit and chosen the room and were informed about the room name. We have explicitly told to Stephane that we need two separate twin beds since we are two friends travelling together and each one of us needs her own space. At the time we arrived at the pousada, a staff member who cannot speak English gave me a letter from the owners. In the letter Stephane had written that they have given us another hotel room. When we entered the room, we have seen that the room was very small compared to the room we have already chosen and paid for and most importantly it was a double-bed room. We went downstairs and asked the staff member to call Stephane. I talked to him and said that we have never experienced somethng like this before and that we are not gonna sleep in this room. He said that he had already given our room to a group of 3 persons but if we insist on staying at the room we already paid for, we could stay in this room and the staff member can carry the bags and luggage of the other group to another room. I said that "we ofcourse insist on this" since it is our right!

Anyways, it took the pousada staff 1 hour to clean our previosly arranged room and in this way we lost another 1 hour of our valuable and limited time in Salvador (we anyway had only 2 nights!!)

In the evening Stephane was at the lobby talking to the other customers (all of them were French like Stephane) and he was really taking his time to talk to them. He saw me and came to me for 2 minutes and said that if we have any questions about Salvador we can ask him this later on. After this sentence he went back to his French customers and continued his chat. I waited, waited, waited at the lobby for about an hour. After he finished his charming talk to the other customers, he came to me and i said i had a few questions. He said: "I HAVE TO GO, NOW I HAVE NO TIME"!!!! I was totally in shock!!!! U are not paying a small amount of money to be honest for staying in this Pousada, for Salvador standards it is a lot of money and you think that u will get a good customer service. But u dont get it.......Afterwards i insisted on 1-2 questions and he replied to me unwillingly at the entrance of the building while leaving the pousada with a few sentences.

The next morning Stephane's wife Gerusa was at the Pousada. We asked her how we can go out of the city center to the beaches such as Praia da Forte. She said that it is too late to go with the bus. My friend insisted on getting from her the bus timetable. She made a phonecall to the bus terminal and told us that after 10 am the first bus will be at 12:00. This sound to us quite unlogical as until 10 am there were busses running every hour. My friend talked to her while i was waiting at the breakfast area. After 20 minutes of talking Gerusa called the terminal again and there you go: There was another bus at 10:30!!!! But we didnt make it to th bus since we waited soo much at the pousada to get an answer! In terms of taxis she told us that it would cost 240 Relais for a return ride to the beach. All this information and more Gerusa gave in a very unfriendly way.

Well as we went out of pousada, we went to the taxi station at the main square and asked the price to go to the beach. It was 140 relais instead of 240!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again wrong information.

We had a great day at the beach. We had more than enough time to visit two beaches although Gerusa advised us not to go!!! Our taxi driver was great! We went first to Praia do Forte and then to Guarajuba where we had a great seafood-lunch.

In terms of rooms, as said some of them are quite nice and big but one thing i noticed: "THERE ARE NO SHAMPOOS or HAIRCONDITIONERS" only a small piece of soap. If u pay 120 Euros to stay somewhere u expect to have at least a very small bottle of shampoo....

As a summary and as someone travelling a lot, I can only advise u not to stay in this place.......

Dear guest,

Regarding the comments of your very negative review, I would like to make clear that I just tried to suggest you another seaview room (adapted for 2 persons) as you had booked the largest seaview room of the pousada (adapted for 5 persons).
As you didn't agree, you naturally stayed in the choosen room as previously planned.
It was just a suggestion and we were speaking about rooms of same range of quality and price.
The luggage of the previous guests were still in the room, already packed.
It just took a few minutes to remove them and get the room ready for you (far from 1 or 2 hours).

Reading the many other reviews, it is easy to understand that Gerusa and I love giving tips and recomendations to our guests, whatever their nationality and the language they speak (as we speak 5 languages), if they want some.
However, as we also have a family to take care of, we do it on specific schedule in the morning and in the evening.

When asked for, we give our personal recomendations and opinions. Of course, we don't have any interest in giving wrong informations. Then, each guest take his own decision.

Indeed, we don't offer shampoos and hair conditioners in our pousada because we believe that our guest's expectations are different.
Our concept is to offer a friendly and personal assistance to our guests in a family atmosphere.
This is what we have.

Regards,

Stéphane Ettore

We stayed here in March 2012 to visit Salvador da Bahia. The area has different Pousadas and is in good walking distance to the old town, Pelourinho. The owner, Gerusa was friendly, her huband never showed up the days we were there. Breakfast was alright, served on a nice terrace. The room had a nice view to the bay and the port. We had in the end an issue with cancelling a night that we had booked for some time later while Gerusa first said this is no problem, also according to their cancelling terms on the website, she said the next day she had talked to her husband and we had to pay for the additional night anyway. The discussion in the end about the charges for a night which we wanted to cancel early enough kind of disturbed the good picture we had of the pousada.

We stayed at Pousada Casa Vila Bela for three nights in May 2012. In the nicely decorated pousada, we had the room on the top floor, including a balcony with great ocean view. A warm welcome, good breakfast and extensive advise on activities and restaurants nearby made us feel right at home. We thought it was good value for money, and a great starting point for discovering Salvador!

Gerusa and Stephane are the delightful owners of the Pousada Casa Vila Bela, a short walk from the main Pelourinho area of Salvador. The area feels safe as there is a tourist police presence. "Yamanja" is their best room with elevated views over the harbor and a large balcony, and breakfast is served on the patio below. Carmo is a small neighborhood filled with locals' quaint houses and small restaurants, cobblestone streets, kids playing in the streets, and old churches. Gerusa and Stephane were unbelievably friendly, informative and wonderfully helpful at all times - I had a problem with my taxi to the airport and Stephane insisted he drive me there, giving up part of Sunday with his family.
