“Heaven on Earth/Salvador”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

Pros: the architecture is quite simply breathtaking. It's an old colonial restored house. Too beautiful to be true on the inside. The rooms are superbly decorated and has great details like a shower with a view of the bay and they raised the level of the bed so you can enjoy the view while lying down . The whole 'pousada' has a magic atmosphere. The breakfast is actually one of the best in my life. The staff is also a great contributor to the atmosphere, being really helpful and nice (as most people in Bahia). The view from my room to the bay was astonishing. The price (R$ 285) for a room this big, with this view, in this amazing house and with this fantastic breakfast is a no-brainer for the Brazilian reality.

Cons: though it's located in a historic 'center', it's a relatively isolated area of the city, which is now being revitalized - can get dangerous or at least weird at night, so I don't recommend walking at night time. The showers have low water pressure, but the owner assured me they were fixing this problem. I stayed in a room in the 3rd floor (the most amazing view) but it can be a lot of stairs for older people (no elevator, would ruin the house though).

All in all an amazing experience, and a must stay, even if for only a few days to get to know the house.

Room Tip: Top floor = best view.

We stayed there during our trip to see a Confederations Cup game. The stadium is within walking distance from the hotel, which is a great plus.
The house is beautiful, great breakfast and friendly staff. The views from our room was beautiful as well.
A bit expensive for the room size. Also, somebody broke our car window during the night right in front of the Pousada. The Pelourinho neighborhood isn't that safe as well.

The pousada is in the old town of Salvador, about 4 blocks from all the action. So you are in the middle of things but not on top of them.

The Pousada is two antique houses completely remodeled and brought to excelent condition, with nice rooms in local style, with a/c (a must in Bahia). Most of the rooms including the suite 1 where we stayed are facing the bahia de todos los santos, and the view is very nice.

Our suite was lacking on the water presure for a shower, but we managed.

Breakfast is Brasilin style but very well done, and the small restaurant has a great view of the bay.

Room Tip: Choose a view on the middle floors with a bay view.

We stayed at the Pousada for 4 nights at the beginning of our honeymoon and were so glad we did as this is a very lovely place to stay. It is a short walk to the beautiful Pelourinho and surrounded by colourful colonial buildings. We had read a worrying comment in Lonely Planet about the area between Pelourinho and Santo Antonio being a mugging hotspot so were anxious the first evening walking back, but we were relieved to find that it felt completely safe and never had any sense of it being dangerous at all. However, this was during carnival when there were always plenty of happy people about so am unable to say what it may be like out of Carnival season. It is about a 20 min taxi to the Barra which costs hardly anything. The room was clean, nicely furnished and air conditioned. The staff were all extremely helpful, hard-working and always happy and friendly. The breakfast was also excellent every day! Finally, the icing on the cake of this place is Davi who not only recommended the best Churasco in town (Fogo de Chao), but made us what was without a doubt the best Caipirinhas we'd ever tasted and will probably ever taste! The guy is a genius, if you stay here you must try them! He was also extremely friendly, happy and professional. Thank you to all the staff at the Pousada for kicking off our dream trip with a great stay!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have lovely balcony's over the garden and the port

Stayed four nights at this Pousada during height of Carnival and its a peaceful sanctuary only a few minutes walk from the streets of Pelourinho. Our room had aircon which was a pleasant surprise. Beds are firm but very comfy. Room has a safe. Food is very reasonably priced as is the drinks menu. Puttanesca and cannelloni are recommended. Staff always greet you with a smile and are always willing to accommodate any and all requests. Owner speaks English and is very helpful. Receptionist organized our camerote tickets at the last minute and made several phone calls and web searches in doing so. Lots of common areas to chill out from. Free wifi in common areas and even worked in our room. Rm 10. Alfresco area has great ocean views and great photo opp. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Yes, it is a sweet little Boutique Hotel with 15 rooms in the middle of the very old and historic part of Salvador. The rooms are authentic in portoguese style, we had a room with an air condition but despite the high temperature and humidity we were happy with the fan at the ceiling. The staff is very friendly and the service is great. You cannot get a better breakfast in a small hotel like this, it is really the signature of the lady who organises this pretty place. The hotel is actually accommodated in two of the historic houses. Yes, it is authentic, it is organic, grown and not constructed on a drawing board. Almost like a small museum. It is clean and comfortable. It may need some bit of renovvation in some areas in the near future.

Now, we arrived late from the airport in the dark, driving throught the outskirts of the city which gave a very bad initial impression of a dirty harbour town, than approaching the old historic city of Salvador, still dark, bad roads, getting really scared ofthe neighbourhood. I could not believe it when our driver stopped the car in a very poor looking street at night, just like in the poorest quarter of a dark town in the 19th century. Where are the bandits? These were first impressions.

Once in the sweet Pousada, we felt much better because of the welcoming friendlyness of the people. Next day we wandered around all this area, and at night time we were happy to stroll along the roads to the may bars, cafe's and restaurants.

Last impression. Don't get scared when arriving at night. The sun will shine in you heart next day and you will really love it. It is pure and real and sweet. There is evev the consulate of The Neatherlands in the same street. A fully recommendable stay.

Room Tip: Try room number 3 on top of the Pousada.

This Pousada is a great place to stay while visiting Salvador. It is close to the main attractions in the old city, has comfortable rooms and a truly fantastic breakfast. I have travelled quite a bit, and this breakfast is the best I have ever had at a hotel - and it's included in the price! Our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean, which was a comfortable bonus. The rest of the Pousada is also really nice, with interesting design details and the staff is both friendly and helpful. They also have a small restaurant where we ate a quick meal before heading to the airport. The Pousada also reliably organized our airport transfers. Only complaint was that the airconditioning was really loud, however, no big deal. Definitely recommended!
