Great hotel, new bedroom, in front of the beach, near "farol da barra lighthouse" and the service was excellent. I do really recomend this hotel.

Really liked this hotel, right across the road from the beach. Had a bright and airy room facing the ocean...falling asleep hearing those magical sounds was amazing. Room and general hotel was clean and had good service, stuffed our faces with sausages, eggs, crepes and cakes for breakfast every morning. Free internet so I could show off my photos on Facebook and make everyone jealous. Was in a great location, right near the lighthouse and beaches, not far at all from Pelourinho, but still had a nice neighbourhood feel. You feel right at home!

Didn't go for carnival but had it on good authority (from a Brazilian friend from Rio) that this hotel is an amazing spot from which to see all the action.

Will definitely go back and stay at the Monte Pascoal.

We came upon this hotel when searching for somewhere to stay after the place we were stayiing in was too bad to stay at. The staff looked after us so well, most spoke english.
They organised tours for us.
The location was right on the beach and the value was great.
THe deal included a huge, delicous breakfast.
Rooms were well maintained and comfortable, very good airconditioning in a very hot place.

Well, this is a great surprise: a comfortable hotel with all the support you may need to experience Salvador. Just in front of the beach (you can sleep hearing the ocean) and close to all the main points of the city, you don´t need much help to find yourself in love with the people, the food and the city. Rooms are pretty nice, with two beds and english spoken channels on tv. Breakfast is a party by itself. Hope I can come back soon.

My choral group from Boston was visiting Salvador as part of a wide-ranging tour to Brasil. This hotel, though not the fanciest looking property, was perfect in every way. It's location, right on Avenida Oceânica, put us across the street from the beach. I went to sleep every night with my balcony door open so that I could hear the sound of waves lapping on the shore.

The hotel is within within a short taxi or public transport ride of many major attractions in Salvador, including the Pelourinho. It is also within walking distance of many restaurants that are frequented by locals (meaning they are not tourist traps). My favorite was the Barravento, an open air restaurant on a patio that juts out onto the beach. It is underneath a large sail-shaped roof and provides amazing views of the whole beachfront.

Anyway, back to the hotel... The staff and service were top rate! The hotel also has a masseuse onsite and she is both friendly and excellent at her craft. There is a great bar in the lobby that catered to our night owls until the wee hours of the morning and there are internet PCs in the lobby as well. With all that was right with this hotel, I couldn't believe how reasonable the room rates were, even if someone is not traveling with a group. The rooms could stand an upgrade but I think that they are fine if one is not seeking a 5-star experience.

Bottomline: I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone!

The Monte Pascoal is a total gem in the ocean of hotel mediocrity in Salvador. It's on the best possible location on Barra beach - the only hotel I can see on the seafront between the statue and the lighthouse.

The room is immaculate. It feels like it was renovated last week - there's barely a mark on it - not even a single suitcase scuff mark. Marble tiles throughout, opulent wooden furnishings, granite bathroom countertop with a very modern sink, no bath but a large wetroom shower. Aircon unit's huge but practically silent. The balcony overlooking the beach is amazing - check the picture. It's idyllic bliss.

Get a room with a front sea view (room numbers ending 01 to 04), although from the map it appears all rooms have at least a side sea view. I walked in off the street and they dropped their initial rate quote 30% by me just raising an eyebrow - I feel I could have got cheaper, but for circa US$110 including taxes, breakfast and free wireless internet, I'm not complaining at this total bargain find.

There is a 24-hour gas station convenience store and a 24-hour Subway sandwich store right outside the hotel front door. The upscale Barra shopping complex with its excellent food court is about 200 metres away.

I can't tell you why no-one's reviewed this place in the past two years, but the hotel appears to have had a major renovation. I stay in around fifty 4* hotels a year, and for fellow tourists out there used to American and European 4* standards, this place will thrill you.

I group of friends and I stayed at the monte Pascoal in may for about a week. First of all we had negotiated a group rate for beach front rooms, and as we all checked in on different days they were very sorry to inform us that they had no beach front rooms available, they put is in side view rooms and they would later try to accomodate us (this never happened). Breakfast was included, but we were very unlucky that there was a large tour staying at the hotel, therefore when we would go down for breakfast at 9am there was no food left and no one was refilling. The pool is the size of a jacuzzi, right next to the restaurant with barely eatable food.

The most positive thing I can say about the hotel is that it had a good location, there were plenty of restaurants around it to eat out at night, and Shopping Barra (huge shopping center with a food court) was three blocks away.

If I were to go to Salvador again I would Stay at the Pestana, beautiful rooms, great views and good food, and the price difference isn't worth dealing with the monte pascoal.
