“Nice Beach Front”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

Stayed at the Catussaba Resort from1oth to 13th May,2014. The hotel has wonderful well maintained grounds. Rooms are in dire need of renovation. Got tired of the buffet but the a la carte food was much better. Excellent staff.

A 20 minute wait to check in is unforgivable. Just because of the location I will return.

Absolutely disgusting. From the moment I walked through the door I wanted to leave. Service by the reception staff was surly, bordering on rude. The first room we got was just nasty, the second had a sea view but when we tried to turn on the 'air con' discovered that the wasn't actually an air con unit, despite the guy repeatedly telling us it was working. The room smelt overwhelmingly like a mixture of bleach and those pellets that some places put in men's urinals.
We got another room - an hour after we arrived that smelt the same as the last one with a lovely view of some sheds that people were living in and a glass topped wall. The ' lock' on the balcony door wouldn't withstand a strong wind. The light fittings were either hanging from the walls or ceiling. Everything looked like there had been a major flood. Paint was bobbled all over the walls and the doors were weather/water distressed.
I had to walk around the room in shoes because the floor was filthy. The pillows were an unpleasant shade of yellow, thankfully I had my travel pillow.
Going to see what breakfast had to over was another big let down, the food options were like a poor school canteen. There were lots of no brand cereals, fruit that was in mounds and already peeled, orange sections already peeled !!! Loads of types of bread and croissants in one of those silver things to keep things hot which results in soggy steamed croissants. The only thing I was willing to risk was a banana because it was still in its skin. Everything else looked like a breeding ground for food poisoning. There was a guy making smoothies Ina rusty fridge in an outside bar area that would of benefitted from some of the bleach they lavish around the interior.

Sun loungers by the pool were in such a sorry state, mostly yellowing/brown. A combination of sea water and never beefing cleaned. Half of them had backs that didn't even stay up properly they were so warped. There were some goal posts in the kids area that were coved in rust.

If you have any other choices do not come to this hotel. I've travelled to a lot of places and stayed in worse ' hotels' usually they had the grace to call them themselves back packer hostels. We stayed one night purely because we arrived at midnight but checked out early and paid ourselves to stay somewhere else as this was so simply disgusting.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel .....

The whole experience was a disappointment, except for the fact that the place is right on the beach. We arrived late in the afternoon and as we drove through the entrance we had a very good first impression of the place. After that, the hotel turned out to be a big frustration. The room was in poor conditions. The mattress was thin and old. The curtains were filthy. We got two king size beds with one single pillow on each. Everything else in there was worn out. The dinner buffet was mediocre to say the least: over cooked vegetable, hard steaks, cheap cheese etc. The service was slow. 't about 3 am the air-condition went down and it took them over an hour to get it back. Breakfast was also mediocre, especially considering the daily rate. Choose some place else. You'll thank me.

Stayed here for four nights a few weeks ago.

On the plus side: within 15 minutes by taxi of the airport (but definitely not an "airport hotel" (no aircraft noise, etc); pleasant reception area and amenable staff; lovely well-kept tropical garden surrounds; super, secluded little beach with few people on it (mind you, the red danger flag is always up and it´s virtually impossible to swim in the sea given the strong undertow; very friendly but congenitally slow wait staff in the bars.

On the minus side: I had a reasonable room, but friends told me that theirs were in need of refurbishment (I also overheard people complaining at reception); upstairs bar is a disaster area-took 30 minutes to produce a beer; dining rooms very basic and quite clunky, in-house conference people coming and going; breakfast is good only for the fruits and fruit juices, and the scrambled eggs (very little of edible value to interest foreign visitors, and no typical Bahian dishes (probably a good thing!!); pool area a strange shape, very shallow and not good for a proper swim, and endless bad music all day long to entertain kids I suppose; fitness room 5 minutes from main hotel, very basic, creepy; sauna looks a hundred years old and was out of order for my four days. Security is lax: one friend had her new IPhone nicked from the conference centre.

All in all, this is a 3 star establishment masqueradfing as a 5-star. It looks older than the pictures. The whole place and the "faciities", including the food, need a serious upgrade. I cannot understand why it should be useful for business people (or indeed tourists) given that it is 40 k from the centre of Salvador, unless of course if you are doing business way to the north of the city. The one great attraction is its location on a lovely small beach... but apart from that I could not recommend it at present to foreign visitors. It really needs to get its act together!!!

Had stayed at this hotel last year too but this time it was bad . No staff to help with the baggage at check-in. The rooms are in detorating condition total lack of maintainence. Smelly . December time hotel filled above capacity it was a mess all around , hotels should be very careful how much they can accomodate. Some good points the hotel externally is very beautiful well maintained lawns. Swimming pool and its privilaged location right in front of the beach . Restaurant food a la carte is ok . Has already booked for feb 2014 now rethinking

I stayed in the hotel with my wife. I had a business meeting on a monday, but we decided to go on Friday night and enjoy Salvador and its beaches.

The hotel is near the airport and next to the Catussaba beach. The beach is great, nice white sand and clean ocean water, with very few people on it (just hotel guests and some surfers). this is the highlight of the hotel and I recommend visiting just for that.

The service, like in most Brazilian hotels, is very friendly, always smiling. Also, they have small travel agency that offers different excursions (Northern beaches, morro de Sao Paulo, historic Salvador, etc). I recommend you going to some of the near beaches or to Morro de Sao Paulo.

In terms of infrastructure, like most hotels in Brazil, it is subpar vis a vis European or US hotels of the same category. In theory a 5 star hotel, it ressembles a 3 star European or US hotel. Ugly bathrooms, with no bath tubs and just a "shower", not very confortable beds, etc. However, you go there for the beach and for the nice historic town.

The food is very good at breakfast, with lots of fruit, omeletes, etc. At dinner it is a buffet, but with limited variety.

Overall, I recommend it. Do not expect a "luxury" resort, but the location, in front of a beautiful beach, and the nice, firendly service, are worth visiting.

My wife and I have stayed in this hotel many times over the last probably twenty years and the hotel still continues to be comfortable with a goodand friendly staff. Vitor welcomed us for our check in and he was very efficient and cordial. Since our room was not yet cleaned yet he told us that we could go dowon to the bar and have a couple of caipirinhas on the hotel. The breakfast is good but there are two things that could possibly be better. First of all the window for fried eggs and tapiocas forms a queue that can take you longer to get what you want than the entire time that it takes your enjoy your breakfast. The other problem is that there is a large number of sparrows flying all over the restaurant looking for food. I realize that this would be very difficult to solve, but we must remember that these "cute" little birds are carrying diseases directly to the table where we are eating! The hotel used to have three or four computers for the guests to use to check emails etc. When I tried to use one, there was only one and three little rug rats stayed on it for hours although there is a sign saying that guests can only use it for 10 minutes at a time. The airconditioner in our room 1351 only has ON and OFF so you cannot adjust the temperature, which means that in the middle of the night your will have to eventually turn it off to maintain a comfortable temperature. I have returned many times to this hotel and will continue to do so.

Room Tip: I would not recommend a rooom near the pool because of the noise caused by children and the hotel...
