The hotel is downtown not in an area where one feels comfortable walking. You will need to rent a car or use taxis. The rooms are wonderful, you can tell the hotel has been recently renovated. Very good breakfast buffet. Wifi doesn't work well and the speed is really slow. Service is pretty average, be prepared to fill up a long form with a lot if information at check in. Even if you are a SPG member and your data is up-to-date, they ignore it. Check in is slow and inefficient

When I arrived, i was told that my "Superior Room" reservation had been upgraded two-fold...well, I don't think so. The room was very standard and small. The view was overlooking the park, which was nice. Be warned that music from bars nearby come through very loud also in your room.
Why they keep the common areas so cold, I will never understand. You can barely stay in their lounge on the 12th floor for more than 10 minutes, as you literally freeze.
Was informed on the day I checked in that the pool would not be open for the entire weekend and although we had planned to use it, it rained the entire time, so no big deal.
The location was not so good for us, as we had to take cabs every where. We were always told that it was unsafe to walk around that area. I live in Rio and I have to admit that even I felt a bit unsecure.
On the first night, as there was no beer or wine in the lounge, I wanted to order a bottle of wine...they were all out except for the very expensive bottles.
The buffet breakfast was very good and complete, but once again, was kept at a freezing level..but its ok, they have a terrace and you can sit/eat outside.
The checkout process was quite painful for my friend, it took 30 minutes before he actually received his bill. For me, it was a bit faster.
In the end, the service was not as I was expecting from the front desk...all the others, however, were extremely helpful.

I stayed in the Hotel for around 2 weeks and it’s quite a mixed bag.

On the one hand, it must be stressed this Hotel has just a few months ago become a Sheraton Hotel ‎after lots of investment and refurbishment. The staff DO try very hard to accommodate and give a ‎good service, but there is still a very long way to go for it to be a Hotel that deserves the Sheraton ‎brand!!‎

The Good:‎
It is newly refurbished, the common areas and the rooms look great, well-appointed and are ‎undoubtedly of a very high standard.‎

The mini bar well stocked up, the maids clean the room in a highly professional manner, everything tip ‎top, including a turn down services, all top notch.‎

The Staff, very helpful, attentive, most speak English at various levels, at night the level of English ‎kinda drops, but you can get by.‎

The Internet and other business services are all fine, although the lower floor you are the better your ‎internet connection will be.‎

The not so good…‎

I’m going to list here a bunch of things, not to be negative, more to give constructive criticism to ‎encourage the management to do more and get it right, I know they would love to.‎

The Food:‎
It’s blatantly obvious, they are totally clueless in the Kitchen, clueless…have never served any cuisine ‎of any decent level, some dishes, simply odd, like a smoked salmon sandwich, which is mostly other ‎stuff that is not really connected and a thin slice of salmon, somewhere hidden at the bottom. Most ‎dishes were just bland, fresh and done on the spot, but just not tasty. Not just to my refined ‎international palette, I ate the food with locals and they complained just as much. The breakfast was ‎poor, variety very sparse, quantities mingy.‎

The Room Service:‎
An order will not go out before at least 1-2 follow up calls (sometimes up to 5 calls), after you initially ‎placed an order, often explaining to you, why this that or the other is not available. Once, I was told ‎the items for the Banana Split are there, but the person who knows how to prepare it is not there. All ‎sorts of interesting things going on with that room service..to sum it up, you can have a menu as long ‎and as impressive as you wish, but you do kinda need the products on a permanent basis to back it up, ‎or else you would run into problems very often.‎

The lifts/Elevator:‎
The lifts in the Hotel are dark brown, there is one bulb in the centre of the lift and little light emitting ‎from under the dark wood. The first time I walked in, I walked right out, I thought something was ‎wrong this cannot be a working lift, it’s kinda dark...feels like you are in a prison lift..I would not like to ‎get stuck in any lift, defo not one of these.‎

The Round Table:‎
The room is great, other than the fact that there is a round table stuck in the corner of the room, so, ‎you cannot ‎use most of the table since it’s pushed in the corner. The table is an empty table ‎with ‎nothing on it, out of place, sitting in the corner with no chair, so you have to wheel the one office ‎chair that ‎comes in the room across to the table to make any use of it, other than that it can be used as ‎a ‎shelf to put stuff on it, but not as a table and chair.‎

The Shower:‎
Here is a tip, how to get hot water running in a shower at a 5 Star Hotel, you simply let the water run ‎for at least 5-8 minutes, then you will get hot water, so be patient. Also don’t be frightened by the ‎sound of suction as the water goes down the drain, it’s pretty loud and constant throughout the ‎shower.‎

The Army Base:‎
Sometimes, you might see on TV, how in the Brazilian Prisons and in the Army, they train every ‎morning with hard-core exercise in big groups…..well, here you will get a chance to see it and most ‎importantly to hear it every morning, if you like such a kind of wake-up call at 6am, chose the half of ‎the hotel that is facing the army base, if you would prefer to see it on TV, make sure to get a room as ‎far as possible, since, they make a racket and will wake you up, even if you are on the highest floors, ‎they workout and then run around the block with all kinda chants, which all looks and sounds ‎fascinating, but not when you are trying to sleep.‎

The Entertainment;
Since this is a business Hotel, there is no real entertainment provided, but if you take a look at the ‎glossy, thick paper booklet with all the information of the hotel, you will noticed a funny thing, they ‎have invested in a heavy classy colour coded looking booklet, but forgot to send it to someone who ‎actually reads and writes English, before it went off to print…so if you are looking for some ‎entertainment, there you have it…read it, it’s funny, really funny.‎

Room Tip: Tip: make sure you have 2 keys, since when you leave the room, unless you leave one key in the ‎elec...

This hotel is brand new, they made no savings while renovating this beautiful site. Service is starwood standard (really impressed they made this kind of effort in a place such as Salvador).

The entire hotel is furnished with top notch beds and towels, enormous lcd TVs and so on, this is as good as any good W hotel I´ve been, and the best sheraton yet (comparing to Rio, Santiago). Breakfast is delicous and and served in a good way, restaurant is a grade above of what you will generally find of this kind of hotels.

The only downside, is that as any new site, they have their kind of problems with the brand new rooms, all problems were taken care in a very responsive way. Really recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask the view to the town square, front rooms can be loudy.

Well, I am SPG Platinum member and I was born in Bahia, so I had so much expectation with respect to the hotel, especially for being in my town. As I know many Sheratons around the world, I had excellent references for comparison.
Well, the hotel is brand new, everything is new, including a new management model for the state, then it is really necessary to stage soft opening to make the adjustments. I could not Stay at the suite because they were not ready, but my apartment was comfortable and clean.
The vast majority of employees were courteous and gentle, much more than the Sheratons in Rio de Janeiro, but there are some serious deficiencies, especially in the restaurant, where a waiter was very grumpy, which said no even a good morning (I complained to the maitre, but the situation repeated every single day) and little assistance of helpers with the luggage. Also lost a giant time in my check out because the person who was at the reception could not manipulate the system well.
The hostesses of the restaurant were fantastic, educated, beautiful, great mood and energy.
Reps attentive, but still need training to deal with SPG Elite guests.
The gym is very good, with topnotch equipment, just missing a crossover.
The breakfast is hearty, including until Sparkling wine, but lacks the local delicacies, which is served in the other major hotels in the city, but it is a nice space (except the waiter that I mentioned earlier).
The Sheraton Link works well, however there is a certain slowness in the internet.
The Executive should be opened in the next 30 days.
In general, I would stay at the hotel again and would recommend it, but it must be well aware of the standard and the Sheraton guests SPG Elite.

The Sheraton Bahia is a new hotel, still working on a Soft Opening status. When I made my reservation online I also called the hotel an was assured that there wouldn't be any noise from constructions/maintenance.
Let me start by the Pros:
- Every member of staff was VERY polite, sharp and eager to please you as much as they could. One could tell they are really putting an effort to make a good start!
- Everything is brand new, and it seems like Starwood plus its Brazilian investors have aimed to provide the best to its guests.
- The gymm is top notch, and so is the guy managing it at night - thank you for the nice help!
- Breakfast was very good! One advice, please include some strawberry yogurt - just natural won't please Brazilians (I'm one btw).
- Room is well appointed and of an adequate size.
- As always on Starwood Hotels - great bed!

Now, very unfortunately, THE CONs:
- Internet is free, but slow and keeps loosing signal.
This was a trip to rest from a hectic month my wife and I had. The windows, although doble glazed, seem to have the wrong frames, since we could hear most noises from the street: the front square being washed at 4am (it really sounded like an earthquake) plus military groups jogging and singing their tunes were some of the pleasures that kept us up. Oh, we were on the 11th floor, out of 12!
The WORST of all - on a Sunday 7:30 am we were awakened by constant pounding on the wall(hammer). I called reception who apolagise and said they would ask maintenance to stop. Ten minutes later, right when I was falling back to sleep, my phone rings, but no answer when I picked it up. Ten minutes later - the banging starts again! Well, let's call the night off, after only 5 hours on the bed! Needless to say we had a lousy day afterwards!
No apolagies when we went down for breakfast! To make matters worse management send late that afternoon a botlle of cheap sparkling Brazilian wine and some fruits, with a blunt generic note without even one "sorry" - just "with compliments" - as if that would have paid for my terrible experience - thanks, but no thanks - get it out of my room untouched!
We left the hotel pleased by what we saw and grateful for the staff we've met, but extremely disappointed by management, who not only allowed construction on a Sunday 7:30 am, but also is clueless on how to handle situations like that - you have really spoiled our weekend and the chance for a memorable stay. No matter how much you invest or how well you train your staff if you don't let your guests have a proper night of sleep.

Room Tip: Stay away from the City/Square view rooms! Even my wife, who is a VERY hard sleeper, had problems wi...
