Mercure Salvador Boulevard
Ranked #16 of 110 Hotels in Salvador
Reviewed May 6, 2014

We just returned from Salvador where we stayed 9 days at the Mercure Salvador Boulevard. We were there to work on closing a deal on a new property; so our stay was 1/2 vacation and 1/2 legal work for the new place. After a long trip from Washington DC, we arrived at the hotel at 3PM. We were warmly greeted and Daniel was awesome at making us feel welcome. The check in process took a little longer than a typical check in... but overall ... it was fine. We made the request for some assistance on getting around town for our 9 days and he was able to help get everything organized for us. In addition - we arrived during the recent Police Strike in Bahia and the hotel did a great job at making us feel safe, whilst the rest of the city was pretty much in lockdown. We were calmly informed that it might make sense to stay indoors for the first day. A few hours later, the strike was over and we felt safe enough to go outside the following day. I'm still trying to understand how it is even possible to have police go on strike!

The hotel is within a 5-10 minute to walk to Salvador Shopping complex. This place has 400+ shops and an amazing dining area that serves pretty much everything. If you are staying at the hotel, you have to go to the shopping area. You won't regret that visit Salvador Shopping.

During our stay, the main restaurant was undergoing renovations so we did not use the restaurant. But - we did eat at the breakfast service on all 9 days. It is in a different location then the restaurant and the service was great and the food was a above average breakfast buffet. The team working there was very nice and the only day it was a little "off" was on Easter Sunday. The team leader that day was obviously wanting to be anywhere but there - but who could blame him on the big holiday.

We also used the pool and spa area and both were fantastic. The pool is up on the 5th floor or so and had great sun. It is a little noisy since you are in the city - but it was fine for us and we used it on many days.

Room Service was also used on our first night and another night when we were dead tired from the day. The only bad part of our trip was that room service was pretty poor. I hate to say anything bad about the hotel and I only hope that the hotel works to improve the service. On both times using the service, we had to use the front desk to place the order. Even then the order was incorrect on both times. We pretty much ate whatever they brought us and it is the only thing needing improvement. One order was just 2 cheeseburgers and 2 waters. We got one burger, no waters and had to wait another 30 minutes for the second one to come with the drinks. If room service would have been even average, my overall rating would be a 5 for the total experience.

Regarding the room itself - it was spacious and had a huge balcony with views of the ocean and the city. We were on the 19th floor and can only imagine how great the views are from the top floors. The room was huge and had a nice work place for us to lay out all our business paperwork and computers to work. It also had a comfortable bed, bedding and super clean bathroom. Seriously - the cleaning staff kept our place spotless. The bathroom only had a shower, which is fine for us and had great water pressure.

Internet worked 100% of the time and worked great on all our devices. We even were able to access and watch Netflix on both computer and iPad. We were totally not expecting to have good internet access on our trip.

We definitely would recommend staying here on a trip to Salvador.

Room Tip: Include Breakfast in your reservation. It is worth the additional cost

Very nice hotel. Near Shopping Salvador. Located near downtown and not soo far from the airport.

If you are going to Salvador for business issues, that should be your choice. If you want to visit the beaches and do some turism then you should consider other choices.

They have a nice pool that you can actually swim as an exercise and a very nice gym.

The breakfast is all right and do the job.

Great hotel, big rooms with great office space to work. Good internet connections. There is post office across the road, shopping mall a couple of blocks away, and lots of banks also.
Food is good, service is great, people are very nice and friendly.

I love everything about this Hotel, stayed there nearly 2 months in the last year and will always come back. It has all of your needs covered. Location wise, simply 2 minutes walk to Salvador shopping, there you have anything and everything. Internet, works like a charm, service is good. Rooms, totally modern, everything works, nearly brand new and in perfect condition.

The lowlight is the breakfast area, even though they try, there is still some room for improvement, often you need to show members of staff that items are finished, instead of them making sure, that everything is there before you need to ask and wait for things to arrive. Some of the staff are dying to get out of there and look constantly grumpy. Often your fried eggs can take a long time to come. However, the food is good and variety galore.

The highlight for me is the top service of Danielle, his broad language skills, is very personable and always willing to help and knows how to treat guest like royals. He is an asset to this Hotel or any establishment that would have the pleasure of his fabulous guest service.

We didn't plan to stay in this hotel, while in Salvador, but due to a problem reaching our hotel (Mercure Rio Vermelho) in Fev 2nd (Dia de Yemanjá), we were directed to this hotel very efficiently and quickly.
Staff was excellent, nice and attentive and as a compensation for being almost 5hours in the traffic trying to arrive in Mercure Rio Vermelho, they upgraded our room to a suite. The hotel is new and very clean, so as the rooms. Nice view, A/C efficient and silent, good wifi signal. The decoration was pleasant and the rotative t.v. an intelligent tool. The 2 pools are nice and clean, gym looked nice, although we didn't use it.
Breakfast had good quality products and variety (a plus for the cheese bread).
There's a public parking lot in front of the hotel, but it's paid from 6am, so it's better to leave the car in the hotel garage, not very expensive.
We liked this hotel and once again Accor is a brand of our trust, for the prompt and effective customer service, while solving problems.

Room Tip: Upper floors have the best view

We chose this hotel as it was close to our business appointments, and for the economic rate. We upgraded to superior rooms as this could be done for little cost. The rooms were spacious comfortable and clean with fast wifi and a large desk for working. Unfortunately, even on the 12th floor the rooms were blighted by traffic noise. We thought the breakfast could be better for this class of hotel. Small changes in the design could have made this a much better hotel: for example, the bar is not really welcoming (maybe not quite finished yet) and seems to be not part of the hotel so you can't charge bills to rooms. The reception staff were helpful and knowledgable but the check-in process took a very long time. We would stay here again but try to get rooms away from the road noise.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the main road may be noisy due to traffic

Stayed for a week.

Had an apartment. As expected. Nothing to shout about except that i found it cheap. Very good value for money.

The breakfast was very basic but for a business hotel, it was sufficient.

I felt the neighbourhood was safe as compared to other parts of Salvador. No 'funny' people hanging out at street corners. There is a Shell petrol station just across the road. Sufficient to get water or some light snacks.

Salvador shopping mall is just across 2 roads. Exit the hotel, turn left, take the overhead bridge and go right. Within 5 mins, you will be at Salvador shopping mall. Found the food court great. Everything that i needed was there.

The staff spoke very good English, the best i encountered in over 2 weeks at Brazil.
