The best thing in Salvador are the streets, filled with a variety of men and boys of all colours. Slim and muscled. So many studs, your eyes don't even have time to notice the less good looking ones. No idea why God concentrated them here in Salvador, a paradise with a very dark side when it comes to general safety.
The second best thing is that you don't see the ugly fat and very often white ones in these same streets. That's because they're in a SUV, inbetween the condominium where they live and the office block where they work. Only around noon, they come out for a sandwich or a few salgados and a beer.
The worst thing in Salvador are the saunas, where these Brazilians show up again after work. Luckily, a few guys of the first category know their strength and are present too in these saunas. If a foreigner, you will be nearly always the only visitor. So make sure you know a few words of Portugese and make clear appointments in Reais.
Sauna Casarão is situated in a pedestrian street, close to the sea and with several gay or gayfriendly bars in that same street. Rather unusual for Brazil, but very convenient for foreign visitors. Although this prevents apparently the more shy ones from getting in. Entry price is rather high for what you get. On a sunday afternoon, around 5 pm, there were about 15 guests, of which 5 or 6 garotos. Around 7.30 pm, nearly everyone had gone. Gay life starts early and stops early in Salvador de Bahia.
Most guests were typically Brazilian: chubby and hairy. Between the discreet boys, only one was really goodlooking and keeping definitely his body in shape. So I rewarded him with some attention. Half of the sauna is rather unfinished. But the part with the wet and the dry sauna looks good. When I entered, a white man with a sunstroke and burned skin, lay on the ground and blocked the entry of the wet sauna. Very impressing. ;-)
For 33Rs I got one entrance, one energy drink and two towels.
My visit on a thursday at 6.30 pm was a complete disaster. This time I had to pay 20Rs upfront. Shortly afterwards I knew why. 4 men and a garoto. That was the composition of the visitors. It could have been the title of a gay themed movie. I left after 10 minutes and walked to nearby gay Sauna Paradise. And yes, everyone was here.
