this is what a city beach should be like: the water was blue and super clear so you can snorkel around the riffs (which keep out the bigger waves and makes the beach calm) and see colourful fish, sea stars, but also sea urchins - so watch your feet!
The beach was rather crowded when I was there, but hey, it's a city beach. This way you had coconuts, drinks and other food right around you and at the lighthouse you can watch the capoeira dances.

This beach is only average, with rocks abounding and limited space, but packed like Ipanema was at New Years!!

A site of an unspeakable beauty, but like so many places in the city, also lacks enough of a safety more active, because the assaults that occur frequently let tourists quite dissatisfied.

Great beach for kids and family, restaurants, shopping mall nearby, and a safe neighborhood. There is a fort and a light house so it is two monuments in one. And of couse the beach is so good. Plenty of hostels and bed and breakfasts as well as subway and seafood restaurants.

The beach is best from monday - Friday. AVOID Saturday and Sunday. You can rent beach chairs for 4 reais and beer costs 2 reais for a big can. Coconuts can be bought from 1 to 2 reais each depending location. The water is transparent, good for snorkling and swiming
