Went to my first soccer/futbol match in Brazil (Saturday, August 17) Bahia vs Santos (Sao Paulo). The fans for Bahia are extremely passionate and very vocal when the refs make questionable calls against their futbol team. After 90 minuets of running up and down the massive field the score ended in a tie; Bahia 0 and Santos 0. Fonte Nova Stadium is new with all modern facilities. Salvador is now set to host (8) futbol matches during next year's FIFA World Cup 2014. Go Brazil!

I went to all three 2013 Confederations Cup's games held in Fonte Nova, and it is a completely different experience from going to stadiums in Brazil before they had to adopt FIFA standards. It's much more comfortable, and of course much more expensive, but soccer as a product became much more expensive anyway.

Arena Fonte Nova would deserve 5/5 review, if it weren't for two important things: 1) the distance between the rows could be bigger, but it seems they did the way they did to squeeze a few more spectators in. It only gets unconfortable when someone (including you) needs to leave his/her seat, but it is already annoying enough; 2) the food in the bars was VERY POOR during the Confeds. Only a few options, like an overpriced and tasteless hot-dog, chips, chocolates, and a basic beverages. Yes, there were also authorized vendors inside the stadium with popcorn and ice cream, but even with them it was far from satisfying.

The first problem is structural so expect for the same in 2014; the second can be easily solved in time for the World Cup.

Apart from these minor problems, the experience is fantastic: very good views wherever your seat is, great acoustics, easy access to all sectors, more than enough gates considering the total capacity, enough bathrooms, fan shops and bars.
