My friend and I spent 2 wonderful nights at this hotel which is perfectly located, in the heart of Pelourinho, + - 1h10 minutes by bus from the airport.

To get to the hotel, we took the red bus from the airport (line name is Praca da Se) at the cost of 2.80 R$ and it leaves approximately every 50 minutes and leave you just 3 minutes by foot from the hotel, you just hop off in the end of the line, the last stop.

The hotel is great 3*, rooms are nicely decorated in afro-brazilian style with french balconies, very clean and comfortable with flat screen 32 inches tv and AC.

We had rooms 12 and 14 with side alley views.

The breakfast parlor was large and very sunny with views to the port and the Salvador's Cathedral.
The breakfast itself was a delicious cold buffet but you can get eggs prepared upon request.
Many choices of fresh fruits, juices and cakes. Yogurts also upon request.

The staff was helpful and friendly, specially Marcello.
If I ever come back to Salvador, definitely Bahia cafe hotel will be my choice to stay : )

Room Tip: Rooms close to the breakfast parlor are sunny and large

This is an old building lovingly restored and converted into a small hotel right in Praca de Se which is the heart of old Salvador. To get to the Cathedral is a 30 second walk! This is an area which 20 years ago you might not have dared venture into but it is now a lively place with decent hotels, restaurants and craft shops and lots of street life.
The hotel has a nice little bar, some fairly steep stairs to some of the rooms - but our room was a good size and nicely furnished. Maybe a bit short on wardrobe space.
The owner is generally around and he and the rest of the staff are very helpful.
The acid test is always, 'Would you go there again?' - Yes.

Excellent choice. This hotel is very well located in Salvador ! Praca Da Se is also very convenient for taking busses to airport (1h20) , surrounding areas etc
Very clean and convenient hotel with excellent breakfast . Staff very friendly. The owner can give you useful tips for the area. We didn't have troubles with noice of the hotel's cafe on the first floor
We stayed here 3 nights which is enough to see the highlights. Although you can stay longer in Salvador and visit some islands via the ferry.
We didn't feel unsafe at any time and didn't face any problem. Although, poverty in Salvador is clearly more visible than in other cities in Brazil

We stayed in the Bahiacafe Hotel for one night on our way to Morro de São Paulo and wishes we could have stayed for longer. What a charming place, great service and lovely rustic rooms. Fab staff, ever so helpful. Breakfast is a little basic but certainly sufficient. We will be back given the opportunity.

We booked the hotel because of it's unique location, in an old house right at Praça da Sé.
The hotel has plenty of nice small details in terms of decoration creating a very pleasant 'ethnic' atmosphere. The room was nice with a safe and a window to a inner court, which was great as Salvador can be a noisy place...the staff were also very pleasant and helpful. The day we left we showed up for breakfast half hour early and the staff on duty immediately offered to put together something that ended up being an excellent breakfast - all this with a smile. Actually breakfast is definitely a strong point and so is ambiance. Will definitely recommend it.

This hotel is a wonderful find right in the middle of the Historic Centre in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The hotel is quirky and funky, with it’s rustic style and we felt our person and our belongings were safe here.
We took a taxi from the airport, but later learned there is a bus which is a mere fraction of the cost, we paid approx. 109 reals whereas another guest staying in the same area paid about 3 reals by bus, so if you speak Portuguese, investigate this upon your arrival.
The hotel it’s self is a renovated listed building, it’s close to all the action and in a location for carnival. We were able to navigate the local area and found that it’s about 5-10mins walk from docks where we were able to catch a boat to the neighbouring island of Morro De Sau Paulo, a paradise (place you must try to visit if staying here).
Breakfast is included in the rate and you will not be disappointed. In face we found that out of the 5 hotels we stayed in throughout our visit to Brazil, this hotel provided the best spread and didn’t charge us for extras, like eggs made to order.
Hotel staff are friendly and the front desk have a good command of English language, amongst others. All members of staff were very friendly, and patient and helped us a great deal since we do not speak Portuguese or Spanish and needed help with little things like buying medication at the local chemist when I got sick. Our room was tidied every day without us having to remind or request this and we had new towels daily. A/C was effective and we also had use of a fan in the room, again having stayed in several hotels across Brazil, we found this to be the best hotel we stayed in with the best staff, food, service and facilities.
You can’t go wrong, unless you’re looking for Glitz, Shine and Glamour, this is not your glassy modern hotel, it’s very rustic and very ethnic with African Brazilian influences. Lovely.

Room Tip: No lift or elevator so if you can get Room 01 you're lucky - it's close to breakfast room to...

We stayed in Bahiacafe for three nights during Carnival 2013. We got a pick up from the airport, which I really recommend - the hotel would probably be hard to locate by yourself.

The staff was nice, rooms were clean and simple with no extra fuss. Breakfast was also surprisingly good.

The location was also good, since there is a square right in front and no need to walk through shadier places to get here. We didn't suffer from any noise, like past reviews said.

All in all, Bahiacafe was quite a good choice for carnival, since we could get a good sleep away from the biggest shows.
