“No better place to stay in Salvador!”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

I was surprised at how great this place was. We ended up staying here twice- there really is no better place to stay in Salvador.

The location is great- Pelourinho has plenty of places to eat and drink, lots of shops, churches to visit, etc- all at walking distance. You walk out to live music playing somewhere close by every day!

Rooms are clean and spacious, bathrooms are just right, beds are big and comfortable. They insist on cleaning them for their guests daily, which was greatly appreciated. We stayed both in their main building and in their new rooms, right behind (opposite Zulu bar). Both were fantastic! Air con is a major bonus!

Breakfast buffet offered a delicious variety of local food (fruit, cakes, bread, cheese, ham, etc), eggs/sausage and fresh juices and coffee. Free caipirinhas at happy hour are a great bonus!

The staff are very friendly and super helpful. Always around, always smiling and positive. They seemed really invested in the hostel and in making it a great experience for each of their guests! They know the area well and always offer good advice and guidance on where to go and what to do.

All in all a really wonderful stay and I wouldn't go anywhere else in Salvador. My friends had recommended it to me, and it had been recommended to them previously. I will do the same and recommend it to you! It offers a nice friendly family atmosphere- Go! You won't be disappointed.

Perfect location to see the historic center. Nice atmosphere. Nice staff. Good breakfast. Somewhat clean. Upper rooms are a little warm despite the aircon. The free drinks from 5-6pm really helped to connect with the people as everyone was hanging out for them.

Room Tip: Upper rooms can be warm. But maybe the aircon was just working properly.

Had a really good time here, easily the best hostel I've stayed in. Really nice vibe to it, the happy hour meant that every day pretty much everyone in the hostel came down to the patio so it was a great way to meet new people. I was traveling alone so it meant I could find some people to go out with during the day/night. Breakfast was spot on, rooms were very comfortable. Only problem I had was top bunk + no ladder, not the best combo for the shorter people out there.
The location was brilliant - much more to see/do than in the hostels nearer the beach. The bus to Barra is easy and quick. Felt safe the whole time I was there. Would definitely recommend.

We arrived at the hostel about 6pm and checked in. We were lucky enough to make it there in time for Capiriniah hour (everyday from 5.15-6.15 Capiriniah’s are free!) so we took our stuff to our room and then enjoyed a cocktail in the little courtyard area. The courtyard is great with lots of plants around a big wooden table and parasol. Beware, if you have sweet blood then make sure you have plenty of bug spray as I was bitten to death but little tiny midges. The bites were too small to be mosquito bites. Not everyone seemed to have this problem though so you might be fine. Our room was huge with a double bed and bunk beds although we had booked this as a double room. The aircon was very powerful and even made us cold and was turned off some of the time. Our small ensuite was adequate although the toilet cistern was a bit temperamental and we had to lift the cistern lid every time we flushed it to make it fill up again. Our room was cleaned daily and beds were made so this was a bonus. Breakfast was good with scrambled eggs and sausages available should you want this as well as bread, cheese, ham, cakes, fruit, coffee, tea and juice. Paulo the owner of the hostel was great and was able to provide lots of information to guests. Beware Paulo has two dogs, both quite large and one that looks more like a bear than a dog. Both are friendly but if you don’t like dogs then this is good to know before you book. This hostel was by far the most social hostel I have stayed in whilst in Brazil. Capiriniah hour makes it perfect to sit and talk with other guests. We were fortunate enough to meet lots of great people that we had dinner and also went to the famous Tuesday night street party with. Oh I forgot to mention that the hostel has a restaurant around the corner with some meals discounted for guests. The food is DELICIOUS!

Room Tip: This is a fairly noisy hostel because of its location. Also our room was directly above the bar so I...

In the middle of the historical centre of Salvador, very close to the busstation and the boat to Mar Grande (take a bus from there to Valenca to go to Boipeba or Morro de Sao Paolo). Very friendly staff, good rooms with aircon, little outside area where it's nice to sit around and meet other travelers. Very safe because of the outside gate that is always closed. Overall very pleasant stay.

I enjoyed the place when arriving and quitting salvador. I strongly recommend the place because you can arrive whenever the time. somebody will be there to welcome you. the staff is always there for you and will be really flexible if you need little help from them like luggage storage, extra computer for internet... and local and healthy breakfast.
