Review of Ponta Negra Beach

Ponta Negra Beach

Fifa fan fest is located here. This is where you go to watch the brazil world cup games, or any world cup match, really. The beach itself is a beach with a lovely view. IMO Manaus is not a sand destination, it is a mud, concrete, and river water destination, if you catch my drift.

Bottom line its a bit far from wherever you might stay to justify any real excitement.

This place is great for just about everything and feels very safe. People hangout, run, skateboard, bike, drink, play games on the beach, and just enjoy the company. Everyone seemed very friendly. The atmosphere was great at night the way everything was lit up! Just overall good vibes. It is a bit far away from the Teatro area, so you might want to take a cab.

The beach is large and long and clean. The people we saw were friendly. There were plenty of pick-up games going on You can't really swim too far out since there is a barrier some 150 yards from the shore. There were plenty of police and naval patrols on duty. Beach vendors sold beer for $3 and water for $2, about a third of the price charged by the FIFA fan zone next door. The one factor to be aware of is that the beach is about 15 km from the city centre and if the traffic is heavy, as it often is, it can take over an hour to get here.

What a place for a party! We went to the fan fest after the US match and had a great time. During normal days, locals from Manaus come here to frolic in the cool waters of the Rio Negro or enjoy a refreshing bowl of sweet Acai.
