“Manaus Jungle Lodge”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

I booked for three days, two nights at the end of September, 2013, and I wish I had added an extra day or two. The lodge is lovely. Good food, good company and while basic, it was clean and comfortable. And of course the scenery is fantastic. We had a night in the jungle itself which was extraordinarily good fun and not to be missed. All the guides are great but a special mention for our guide, Marcello, who seemed to not only have a genuine love of his homeland but was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Would thoroughly recoomend this trip for the experience of the most fantastic natural resource in the world. I cannot praise the all those involved enough. Above all, for those worried about such things, I felt completely safe and secure throughout, both at the lodge, on the boats and in the jungle.

“Manaus, Brazil --- confluence of the River Amazon and the River Negro”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

One of our famous tour operators in the city of Pune, India, ---- Kesari Tours --- announced of their new tour of South America in Sept 2008. It was to cover Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile , Peru and Bolivia in that order, for a total duration of 3 weeks. My wife Veena and I were always thinking of visiting these remote but fascinating frontiers, which are now getting more and more prominence on the world stage. We, therefore jumped on the wagon, eagerly.
Our first halt, was Manaus, right in the heart of the Amazon country. We reachd there from Mumbai after nearly 30 hours of travel, out of which about 24 hours were of actual air travel. Inspite of the long haul, all of us were up and ready in the early morning next day, for a quick tour of the fabulous fruit and vegetables market followed by the river cruise. The Amazon river is almost like a sea, huge, wide and with a plethora of boats plying in it, boats of all sizes and shapes and multi utility platforms. On both the sides of the river there was thick tropical vegetation, spreading over huge territory. Our cruise boat then reached the famous
" Encontra das Aguas " the stark several miles long line where world's two largest rivers --- the Amazon and the Negro -- join in a turbulent maelstrom. Here the dark water of the Negro runs beside the opaque brown water of the Amazon, without mixing for several miles ! Its a most amazing and a breathtaking spectacle and the photographs taken on the occasion, show this dividing line very clearly, a real wonder of the mother Nature.
After cruising for a while we pulled alongside a jetty, with a restaurant for the afternoon tea and snacks. We then transferred to 3 smaller boats with powerful outboard motors, for a boatride inside the smaller strams of Amazon, which cris-cross the thick forests. We were gone for about an hour, and sudenly we had two small high speed boats, which came literally out of nowhere and surrounding us. Before we could gather our wits, out came a few teenaged children of the tribals living in the area, who were carrying with them an assortment of wild animals including the monkeys, a baby crocodile and one large Boa, wrapped around the neck of one of the young boys. To be honest, we all were most stunned by the suddenness of it all, before we realised that it was a " staged " attack, arranged by our guide, to add thrill to the Amazon safari.
The river cruise and the confluence of Amazon and Negro have been firmly etched in our minds and of course the wild animals of the forest.
We recommend that anyone going to Brazil, must add Manaus in their tour schedule. Veena and Anand Khandekar
PS: We visited this place in Sept 2008, well before July 2012, the last date that we could pick up in the " When did you visit " column, while writing this review.

“Real Amazon Experience”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

Looking for get some impressions from the Amazon I run into Jack on Facebook, he organized a great nature experience into the real Amazon. I was not much fond of lodges and group tour, I was looking for something special. Finally ending up with a local guide called Mario, who spoke few English but was fun, spent a week near his family place somewhere on the Mamori lake. I really loved the fishing in the morning and the canoeing through flooded land. Most days we were camping somewhere and you can´t imagine the sound at sunrise. In spite of the still heavy rain, as he stated rain season is over we had a great time.

“Excellent Organisation”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

We were a group of 4 renting a river boat and did a trip up the Rio Negro. The cabins were spacious and clean. The food was gorgeous we loved the barbecue at the beach. Most we were impressed by the silence up the river near the Anavilhanas Archipelago, hardly nobody is living over there. Marcelo, the guide has a huge knowledge about fauna and wildlife of the Amazon. We spent hours walking through dense forest. The high light was the staying in an indigenous village where nearby Marcelo caught an Anaconda.
