“like stepping back in time”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We visited on our half day guided tour of Manaus and joined one of the organised tours of the teatro. Staff were pleasant with good english. An orchestra were rehearsing which really added to the experience. The place is really impressive and like stepping back in time. The glamour of the teatro is really quite incongruous to the rest of the city which naturally adds to it's appeal. It was interesting to see the black and white motif on the pavement outside. Representing the meeting of the waters, this motif has been reproduced across Brazil, including of course on the famous Copacabana promenade.

“Historical Monument”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

If traveling to Manaus, this is a must see sight. Furthermore, taking the tour of the theater with one of the official guides is worth while. The cost is minimal.

“a must-see”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

Teatro Amazonas is beautiful, well-restored and definitely worth a visit. I had no problem arranging a tour in English when I arrived. The plaza out in front of the teatro is nice for hanging out in the evening, often there is live music and outdoor dining. It seems to be the only peaceful place in Manaus.

“The most interesting historical site in Manaus.”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

The building is impressive from the outside and continues to impress inside as well.
We took the English guided tour which was very basic. Our guide was trying, but her English was just not very good ( a foreshadowing of problems coming with international events on the horizon ).
Fortunately we had prepped for the experience and had our history down.
Frankly the theater is the only site worth a visit in downtown Manaus.
