“A little history, beautiful building”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

If you're in Manaus, this is one of the must see attractions. Located in downtown, the building is an architectural master piece built during the height of the rubber industry boom. It is a stunning building and you'll think that you've stepped into 1895 Rome or Venice. The woodwork on the floors is worth photographing. I continue to marvel that this grand building was buillt well over 100 years ago in a location 900 miles up the Amazon River. Don't miss it. Make sure the check out the gift shop, which some of my friends found to exhibit better craftsmanship than the local markets.

“review for the outside square and history”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

i didn't go into the theater, but wanted to let you know that
1. the square outside is awesome! nice lights on the building and the surrounding trees. and there are lots of little food stands with chairs and tables that have cheap good food (hamburger complete for 7 reals!) with a good view of the theater

2. the history is amazing, look it up and read through the history of the theater while at the food stands enjoying your meal!

“Actually about the most interesting place In Manaus”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Neds a facelift - but was interesting to visit -
city didn't turn us on at all .. was quite dangerous -2 people from ship mugged and someone tried to steal my husbands cell phone - they couldn't get it off his belt though he chased them for two minutes before he realised they didn't get it... silly bugger...
