“PARADISE LOST - PART 2 - disappointment”
Reviewed June 20, 2014

It is now over 3 months since I wrote a long letter to the Tropical Manaus management. However, to date I have not received a single line from them. Not even one of those cold, form letters of regret....My authentic, substantiated and constructive remarks fell on deaf ears. This complete indifference on the part of the hotel management is only one more reason why I would never recommend the hotel. Perhaps management is too busy catering for hordes of soccer fans who are somewhat more impervious to the hotel's less than perfect (to put it mildly!) service and facilities....Tropical Manaus has missed a chance....and I am afraid the good old days will never come again....!.

Dear Mr. goiabada,

We thank you for your comments and are very sorry that we did not meet your expectations. We highlight that our guests observations allows us to improve our positive aspects and to correct our operational failures.

The Tropical Manaus Ecoresort is considered touristic patrimony of the Amazonas State. Built in colonial style and inserted in the forest, it counts with rustic decoration made of Jacarandá wood. The hot and humid climate of the rainforest imposes special care, and our Hotel is in a process of gradual restauration of its installations. This process occurs in a slow speed so that our guests do not feel disturbed.

We know that we can not erase the negative perception occurred, and we can only thank your kindness to allow us to present our considerations and reinforce our apologies.

Kind regards,
Antonio Maglione

We came to the hotel after 2 nights in the amazon the room was just what we were looking for spacious with great quality bed's and shower. The onsite zoo is a nice touch and the location is in the best part of town. The bar had limited choice and was expensive.

A huge hotel with a wide range of amenities, but don't believe all you read on their website..

The standard rooms are a decent size, but agree that air conditioning is fierce and can't be turned off. Also, the wiring is not at Western standards.

As with most of Brazil, the staff seem to struggle with English and service is very slow, especially by the pool.

The gym is tiny and when I stayed, had one working treadmill that was about as old as me (43).. Also, not open early I.e. Before 8am and doesn't appear to open on Sundays.

It's ok and a good base to explore from.

It's a really big hotel and you need to pay attention to don't get lost in it.
The receptionist was very welcoming.
I stayed at an old room but I looked a new one that was being cleaned and it looked much nicer, so my advice is you to ask for the new ones.
The waiters by the pool don't serve you well, most of the times I had to walk towards the bar to order something.
You shall not forget to see the zoo and enjoy the sunset at the "prainha".

My Dream was to someday check out The Opera House, unfortunately it was under construction.I loved the Portuguese architectural
Design............The Roofs of the Bedroom were high, It gave The Tropical Hotel an ambuence of yesteryears. We Hopped on a boat for a trip on the Rio Negro, it was for the 2 of us. I never saw Large Dolphines appear in front of my eyes just like a mirage. The Service at the hotel Great and Breakfast Devine............Brazil has its own charm.

Room Tip: Rooms on the South side are quieter

Beautiful interiors, good breakfast, great pool, lovely big green area, friendly staff.
But plenty of "but"...
Equipment and furniture dilapidated. The bathroom tiles, locks, wall hooks falling off. Tile is very cheap. A similar tile was in the bathroom when I lived in a student dormitory in 1976-82 in Moscow... Nightmare in bidet - with a fountain. Balcony door cracked. Air conditioning is very noisy. No lift! So we had to carry the bags up the stairs.
The hotel is convenient for travellers who start their cruise here.

I've been here for two nights at the beginning and at the end of my trip.
The Hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport and conveniently located on the shore of Rio Negro.
It's a big Hotel, but it's easy to find anything there.
Rooms are spacious and clean; people of the staff are very kind and helpful.
It show a little aging, but at the Ecuator, is not easy to keep things in good shapes.
As I wrote, it is a nice place to start your Amazon exploration.
