A nice restaurant with simple but clean atmosphere. Authentic amazone food on the menu. Friendly personell who are very willing to explain and provide english card and information.

Better make reservations as it is a rather popular place for locals and amazonvisitors.

Our hotel happened to be situated fairly close and it was a warm evening so we decided to walk to the Banzeiro. However this turned out to be a tricky task since the Rua Libertador is sort of a circular road and we just couldn’t find the number 102. On top, most of the road was located in a very shady area without any road signs and we were in disbelief that this kind of restaurant might be situated in that kind of neighborhood and all that made us feel increasingly uncomfortable. On the verge of giving up, a taxi driver appearing out of the blue rescued us and brought us to the restaurant at the far end of the road.
Neighborhoods in Brasil can change in the wink of an eye and suddenly everything looked nice and proper and the restaurant is in deed a modern and tastefully decorated, welcoming place.
We were quite disappointed to find out that the chef’s special set menu was not available on Sundays and Mondays (we were there on a Monday). The rest of the menu was plainly too large for it all to be good and the dishes didn’t sound particularly promising or innovative. Amongst many other dishes there was a block where three different kinds of fish were arranged tabularly, each being offered in about six or seven different preparations, almost like in one of those Chinese Restaurants. Also, all dishes (both appetizers and main dishes) were offered only for 2 people, thus reducing the variety of choice by 50%. The salad with crispy fish bits we chose as a starter was nice but not in any way thrilling and it came without any dressing, leaving the vinegar and oil trick up to ourselves. As main course we decided upon the grilled Arapaima (called Pirarucu in Brazil) with mushrooms and black rice. The fish was very nice, the mushrooms were OK, the rice was as bland as can be. We ordered a bottle of a beautiful white Argentinean Torrontés, which was complex and fruity and went well with the fish. Sadly, the servings were too large for us to order a desert.
The meal definitely wasn’t bad, the service was OK and the prices were fair. If we had come with less high expectations we probably wouldn’t have been as disappointed. However, if this is the best you can get in Manaus they sure have a lot to catch up on!
