My first experience at a Brazilian pousada was excellent. Very subtle entry, look for a pagoda-type roof over the entry at the street. Frankly, my first morning I went out into the hood and nearly got lost coming home. The delightful front dest staff saw me wandering and shouted out to me! Thank you! The lovely front staff speak 2 languages (this should be a MUST for hoteliers around the world!). The breakfast is located in a lovely & covered patio. Eggs are also on the menu with the typical lovely Brazilian breakfast of baked goods, fresh fruit and juices and plenty of excellent coffee,
Our room was clean and large. Plenty of covered outdoor patio space for reading during one of Manaus's famous monsoons! Also, foreign travelers to Brazil beware: the demand-style showerheads throughout most of the country are a bit tricky in creating hot water. Get schooled how to operate them, or suffer cold showers like I did.
Chez le Rois is well located on a quiet street fairly close (10 min. taxi or 30min bus) to the waterfront or Theatre.
